Saarah Niña (saarahnina) | 197 comments Yes Aqsa I do think making the polls harder to find is clever!! And might make a massive difference all on its own.

It might be a good idea to have members of the month, but I don't think it's needed. But, if someone were to reach a higher rank that could be mentioned.

For reading sprints, the system is better so ranks are only needed when seconding books and if the polls are hard to find, they won't be needed at that point. Right now, the disadvantage is mostly when it comes to the polls.

Ranks up to 3 are good, and probably easier so no one feels they have to work too hard. But, if we have a lot more participation, it could be a good idea to raise this number so everyone fits.

Limiting the numbers in the ranks is smart, how about up to 15 in the 3rd or 2nd rank but if someone fails to participate the next month, they drop down to allow for new participating members.

It doesn't have to be a strict system, but always open to improvement. Perhaps we could start a discussion to see what other members think? Or we go with the poll-hiding idea and see if that improves things enough.

To award the high ranks, you/ another mod could visit the threads for June's book of the month and Sprint and readathon and award the most active members with their new rank and thank them for their participation.

message 152: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) I’m not sure about this all...
I’m active whenever I can and join the discussion if it’s the book I’ve voted for (and even more if I nominated it). However, I won’t be looking for polls since I’m doing most stuff on my iPhone, so I’m thinking this could actually backfire motivating the less active members even less turning it to a less active group.
Same goes for the ranking. I get you want to reward good behaviour but if someone just doesn’t manage to be really active, then you’ll be demotivating them even further.
I think you already do a good job by asking members to only vote if they intend to participate. Maybe you could do what the SpecFic group does: in the discussion thread mentioning everyone who voted for the book as participants. If someone votes for a read several times without participating you could send them a PM about it. You can even make the one who nominated the book, the discussion leader.

Just a couple of thoughts. You could ask the less active members for other ideas.

Nita (goodreadscomnita) | 8 comments I like Susy's suggestions very much. At first, I thought the ranking was a good idea, but she made me see that it actually might backfire and cause people to be less active. I like the idea of mentioning everyone who voted for a book as a participant.

message 154: by Althea ☾ (new)

Althea ☾ (themoonwholistens) I agree with Nita that I thought ranking was a good idea at first until I read what Susy had to say. I like the idea of ranking those members that are the most active but I also think that it my backfire in the long run. But I think it is worth a try and it would be great if we can have a discussion specifically for this so that we can get all the members' feedbacks (sending a broadcast will surely help).

I also like the idea of mentioning everyone who voted for the book as a participant. Maybe we can also put a disclaimer saying that if you nominate a book you must be willing to be a discussion leader for it.

Saarah Niña (saarahnina) | 197 comments I see what you're saying Susy, and I do partially agree. I think if we explained the process to all members, it might work and if we include everyone in the discussion.

But ranking doesn't just reward the active members, it means they have the opportunity to read the books they want/get more say. Right now there's an equal balance, albeit with more non-active members than active. So when it comes to voting for books, it's likely that the book/s selected won't please all the people who actually planned to participate in the buddy read. We can't please everyone of course, but it's a little silly to allow people who don't participate equal say with those who do that's all.

It works and benefits the active members and the idea is, that in doing so, less active members feel encouraged to participate more. Or they may not care. I don't think it runs the risk of demotivating members because they're barely motivated anyway.

Mentioning everyone who votes, as participants, is also a great idea and I'm sure it'll work well.

I think it's worth a try doing what Saarah suggested, like we don't know for sure what the outcome will be, whether it will backfire or if it will be a success. As such I think we should give the rankings a shot. I also like the idea of looking for the polls themselves, since only those who will participate will most likely participate and read the books. I also like the idea of whoever nominates is the discussion leader, and we can also have the option of 2 discussion leaders if someone also wants to lead the book too.

I like the idea too. Either way, it'll probably help more. Even less active members because most memebers ate inactive completely. I've noticed members witg zero comments complaining about the threads and I do not take that feedback into account at all. I do appreciate and am grateful for the feedback given to us by caring and active (in any sense) members. It won't backfire much because the rewards aren't so great. They are average. And there is no limit to how many people can reach the ranks yet. I suppose it is surely worth a try but if you guys want, we can take it up in a poll. However, we will be faced by the same problem that inactive members will not necessarily vote a yes for this.

Hi Maggie,
Thank you for your very thorough message. I completely understand where you are coming from.
I guess I do not see it in your perspective as I've been on and off this group, but if I was gone for as long as you, I can see how looking at all the threads would be overwhelming.

I am happy with the suggestion of a simple clean-up. I cannot speak for Mylien or Aqsa, but I think they wouldn't mind you helping us out to get the archive folders sorted, since I personally do not know how I could do this.

Let me discuss this with Mylien at least and see what she thinks, and I will get back to you?

Once again, thank you for your suggestion! <3

Hey Maggie,
I have spoken with Mylien, fellow co-mod and we have decided to go forth with your idea :)
We have decided to make you a mod of the group so you can help us out with the archive of old discussion! Thanks so much for suggesting this as I think its about time the group has a real good clean :)

Once this is done, you will stay as mod and you will have the same privileges as Mylien and I with the buddy reads and discussions.

*❆ Kαɾҽɳ ❆* | 3040 comments Mod
No worries! Great to have you as part of the team!

That's a good start, shout out to myself or Mylien if you need any help or you want us to do something, we will be happy to help.

Next month, if you want you can start leading buddy reads if you like. Remember to always check the "Mod Talk" thread for any updates from myself or Mylien :)

Catia (kookay) | 71 comments Maybe "choose a music/soundtrack to the book you are reading" and also "choose the characters of the book you are reading". I don´t know if it happens to you but whn i´m reading I always imagine the characters and a certain music for the book. It´s like i´m watching a movie :)

I do it too! It makes me relive it later as well whenever I listen to that music. How do you propose we add it as a collective thing?

Also, thank you for the suggestion :)

Catia (kookay) | 71 comments Maybe in the bookish fun topic you could add 1 topic "Give your book a music" , where we could put a youtube link for example:
While I´m reading The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata i´m listening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s31XT...

and a different topic "The main characters of your book "
maybe with the instructions how to put an image or gif, normaly i use https://giphy.com/
for example:
description

message 168: by Catia (new)

Catia (kookay) | 71 comments So as soon as someone finishes a book we could ask them to share their music and characters

message 169: by Aqsa, Dracarys! (new)

Aqsa (her_747) | 10619 comments Mod
That sounds like a good idea. We could also add the music element for the books we choose. So that if someone uses that, they can share that with the rest of us.

As for the music element in the current books people are reading, that might be included within the thread of current reads where people can mention the music used as well.

This is very sensitive so I will do my best to explain :)

For a normal image it´s very easy..you just have to choose a image and with the right button of the mouse you choose the option "copy image address" and copy and paste to where it says www.IMAGEADDRESS.com

and it comes like this...
