Any ideas/suggestions? Please share with us!
I have a few in mind and will be bombarding you with polls to decide if they should be added for 2019 or not. But please suggest if you have any ideas.
I was thinking we could do that one in a bigger challenge like the book count. We could have a page count for the year. What do u think??

I suggest the RGB challenge. It is where you make the readers to read books with the red covers for first week, books with green covers for second week and blue books for third week.
So you mean we could keep this as a monthly challenge?
We are also starting the color challenge though so won't this be covered in it?

Well this one is sort of different. I did this previously in my group and its not necessarily based specifically on the 7 colours. Just the three basic colours.
7 rainbow colors? ? The color challenge will also have random colors. Though this one could be set as a monthly challenge. Reading only 4 colors throughout the month. A color for a week.

Favourite ships. Can it be any ships? Not just from books"
From movies and seasons if you'd like.

Quick question about the colors one. Would it be the entire book cover, or a cover with just said name color in it? Also, about the reading sprint, I suggest we do pages and not books. I read a lot last year, but not all of the books were over 30 pages. What constitutes "a book" is pretty much what I'm going for here. Is there a min page requirement? Also, that wouldn't be fair to people who are reading books that are 1k pages. Also, do you consider an omnibus one book even if it's comprised of several books? I'm not trying to be "that guy" but I just don't want to be accused of cheating (not saying I'm going to win, but I'm sure going to try."
The prominent color has to be the said color. There could be little other color but the color specified should be the main one.
We'll probably count it as one book unless the individual short stories are longer than usual. Reading Sprints don't require books to be over 300. It requires them to be under that limit. As for those who read bigger books, it's unlikely they'll finish them in a Sprint. That is why Readathons have been introduced where the members speed-read to go through as many pages as possible (rather than books). And if members want those books to be read together then they can always nominate them in Buddy Read Nominations.

For those who asked questions, please note that this thread is not for that purpose. You can ask them here (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...). Future questions will not be answered here, thanks.
Monthly Challenge Idea: A page count competition like mentioned, but maybe we can have one with a specific theme that changes every month (like all books have to have ghosts, or have to be steampunk, or whatever)
Monthly Challenge Idea:having a specific buzzword for each month (eg hunger, maze, girl) and you have to read books with that word in the title
How about alphabetical order sometimes too? you know... read letter a starting title in january, then b in feb etc... but honestly I like how we do things now.
Challenges:scavenger hunt: find as many cars or spaceships or dogs or whatever in your books. You can have teams compete.
different genre for each month
Maybe we could do a challenge one month to read book to movie adaptations that are coming out this year. Those are always fun. Or, building on the scavenger hunt idea, to find and read books with certain things on the cover. Like a dog or boat or something. We could make that a semi-annual or annual thing to give us time to find everything. Keep it to a doable number of things.
I like lots of choice but still want to be stretched a bit. The Aussie Readers annual challenge is less restrictive than Bingo, except for this one, it's all Australian authors, of course. You do have to pick your genres, but that leaves you some room to choose.

I like the scavenger hunt idea, but we'll need teams to make it interesting and different and active participants with a guarantee to read. It'll be new and different.

This sounds good, but I think we already have many yearly challenges. Something that will end in a month.

Can you explain some more?

This could be fun but again, it's yearly :/ And I think this was voted on by members before 2019. It will be given for 2020 :)

I like this, and we'll make it bigger if I can get members willing to participate.

Movie adaptation sounds good. I am thinking we can fit in within the readathon themes though. Or we can have a full month devoted to this. Also, if we keep scavenger hunt, it'll have to have a couple months planning and sign ups before that.

This is good, we can change it to fit 30 days.

Also, do you guys think it'll be good to have something where random 20 or 30 books are provided and the members have to read from only those to count for the challenge?
We can call it Moderator Pool. Idk.

And for Spell your name challenge, I think if we keep it again in the coming months, most people will run out of short names, so we can change it to Spell the word where everyone has to spell the same word.
Girl, Boy, Fish, Trip etc.
Tell me?

I’m doing my own book to movie challenge (movies coming out in 2019) but I have spread it over the year so I can fit in other books each month as well.

Where we have a monthly competition that whoever reads the most amount of pages wins, but the books read all have to adhere to a theme that can change for each competition or something. So like if the theme is ghosts, then all the books have to have ghosts playing a major part in it. Etc., etc., does that make sense?
Aqsa wrote: "And for Spell your name challenge, I think if we keep it again in the coming months, most people will run out of short names, so we can change it to Spell the word where everyone has to spell the s..."Another I've seen that can be adapted is to find a holiday or event or famous person's birthday in a particular month. You could give half a dozen options and readers pick three or whatever, so they can avoid anything that is religious (Christmas) or upsetting to them (Valentine's Day).
For example, for February, here's The History Place website (which I've never seen before, but what a great resource!)
http://www.historyplace.com/specials/...
Avoiding anything too controversial, you could pick:
FEB 1 is famous film director John Ford's birthday. Read a book that became a movie or that was made into a movie or a book you think would make a good movie. (There are long lists here of books people have suggested.)
FEB 3, four Army chaplains went down with the torpedoed ship Dorchester when they gave their own life jackets to frightened young soldiers. Read a book where someone has sacrificed their own safety or happiness to protect someone else.
FEB 3 - Norman Rockwell's birthday. He was famous for his artwork of small town America. Read a book about a small town anywhere or about an artist.
FEB 7 Charles Dickens was born. Read something by this popular novelist, or something from or about about the era when he wrote, (mid 1800s). (historical fiction, or something from one of his contemporaries like Wilkie Collins). This era also covers the time of the Gold Rushes in various places.
FEB 8 Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded. Read something about Elizabethan England or the times during which she reigned.
You get the idea, I'm sure. There are more: Mussolini, Mandela, Edison, Bill Clinton's impeachment, and that's only to Feb 12 and hasn't even got to Valentine's Day!
Lots of months, lots of variety and plenty to play with!
Aqsa wrote: "And for Spell your name challenge, I think if we keep it again in the coming months, most people will run out of short names, so we can change it to Spell the word where everyone has to spell the s..."Or you could ask everyone who wants to participate and every months give one participant's name to another. Basically exchange the names every months with each. This way no one will run short of names.
Or the idea of different words is also good.

This sounds more like the readatons we do. We can set the theme and members read books that fit that theme. We'll modify it to include tropes and ghosts and stuff :)

This is rather interesting! But the only problem is that we dont have many members who'll read so many books in a single month. Most read only a couple. But I love this. I'm now thinking to add this thing in the group someway. Maybe we can keep 4 themes for the month with a theme a week. Or we can make a whole yearly challenge.

That's good! We could swap names. We can incorporate both methods!
