So, I am always curious, how other people discovered this awesome site. In my case, I was introduced by the librarian of my high school 3 years ago, it changed my reading life completely. What about you all?

message 2: by Cyn (new)

Cyn I first found Goodreads back in 2013 through Facebook and was only using it to track what I read. I found out about the Goodreads community late last year after I joined a Discord group :)

message 3: by Alexis (last edited Apr 08, 2018 06:26PM) (new)

Alexis (alexiscollier) I found it through watching Christine Riccio's book tube channel about a year ago.

Scarllet ✦ iamlitandwit (iamlitandwit) | 3 comments I can't even remember! I think I might've discovered goodreads on tumblr back in 2011. All I do remember is that I wanted to track what I wanted to read and what I have read & 2011 was the year I created a lot of my profiles :')

message 5: by アリシア (new)

アリシア (canyounotbothermenowimreading) One of my friends who I just met last year (we bonded over SJM books lol) told me I should get it ! So I did lol and I love it ! I can’t believe I didn’t know this site existed !XD

message 6: by Aqsa (new)

Aqsa (her_747) No one told me! I got a little interest in novels a few years back and I searched some books on google.
Goodreads was almost in all the search results too,but I didn't make an account then. I was too absorbed in school and college books-Total nerd!
Then somewhere in the recent past, I again thought about books-I always liked novels-so I decided to sign up here and pursue this hobby especially since I had time to spare.
No one in my family likes reading so I never knew before!

message 7: by Gabi (new)

Gabi I just found GR at the end of last year and seriously wished I had looked for it sooner! For as much as I say I love to read, I'm a horrible procrastinator, so I was looking for something to help me keep track of the books I was reading, and I came across this site! :D

I always kind of knew Goodreads was here but it wasn’t until the end of last year when I though I should sign up and it has pretty much changed my life (mostly because I’m now encouraged to read books and spend loads of my time doing so!

daniela (daniela_nieblina) Goodreads has been around since forever, but I always thought it was more a catalogue/archival system and not really a "community". I decided one day I wanted to keep track of my reading, so I downloaded a few apps to try out.. one of them being goodreads. The rest, as they say, is history.

message 10: by BlueSkyReader_o7 (new)

BlueSkyReader_o7 My best friend was REALLY into reading. At this time in my life I couldn't understand her (I KNOW I WAS A MONSTER) but then she asked me if she wanted to start a book club. I said "uhhhh ok" and that's when she showed me good reads. I. Was. In. Love. Anyway we started a book club with our friends on here and now I'm back to my good old book worm self!

Whew

message 11: by Teresa Faliq ☼ (new)

Teresa Faliq ☼ (teresa_trilogies) I honestly learned about goodreads from booktube, because you know how the booktubers are always like “and make sure to follow me on goodreads! Link in the description!” so that’s how I found out about goodreads :))

Is awesome to see how we became users of this for so many different reasons.

message 13: by shady boots (last edited Apr 14, 2018 09:24AM) (new)

shady boots (shadyboots) | 1 comments I started reading in 7th or 8th grade, when I found a store that sold books in English (I live in Indonesia, so there's not many of those). Honestly I initially started only because I wanted to pass the time in school because I was heavily bullied and wanted to use reading as a way to drown it all out. But I ended up really enjoying it and getting sucked in. YA was always the genre I gravitated towards, so yeah, it's been the same ever since.

And of course, with reading I discovered Goodreads and used it as a way to keep track of the books I wanted to get. I must've found it from Googling or something, and then eventually I started reviewing.

It sure is! We were so different and in different directions-we still are- and yet we found our way to this common place!

Hollybooks | 4 comments Yeah, it’s amazing how very different people are all brought together by the most fab thing out there... Books!!! I’ve recently broken my leg 😬 and I was wondering if any of you could recommend good books I could read to pass the time? I’m into whatever genre

Oh my! Is it too bad? I hope you get better real soon :)
Try Dark Matter-it's really good. It's a sci-fi thriller
I Am the Messenger is something we all should read:)
Legend and Red Queen series are good, if you are into them.
Have you read A Monster Calls?

P.S.I have no idea if you have already read them or not.

message 17: by Hollybooks (new)

Hollybooks | 4 comments Oh thank you!!! It’s getting better, at least it means more time to read😂 thanks so much for the book suggestions, dark matter and the Red Queen series sound awesome so I’ll give them a try! No I’ve not read A monster calls yet, but I’ve heard lots about it! Did you enjoy it?

Yes, I loved it :) Warning: you'll need tissues really!

I'm so sorry about your injury! Best wishes to you that you have a fast recovery :)

I also second the suggestion for Red Queen (huge fan of the series!). Shatter Me has a unique writing style and Cinder is a futuristic and galactic version of fairy tales, and I just finished To Kill a Kingdom. Not everyone likes it, but I thought it was amazing!

message 20: by Hollybooks (new)

Hollybooks | 4 comments Thank you so much! I’m gonna get Red Queen tomorrow so I can’t wait! X

message 21: by sky ⚡️ (new)

sky ⚡️ (leviosky) I heard about it through the one and only BookTube, and it has changed me for the better. I love having a place I can go to talk to people who love reading as much as I do.

Sara ➽ Ink Is My Sword (inkismysword) | 45 comments Mod
@sky yeah this website certainly changes your life

Olivia's Bookish Places & Spaces I actually don't remember how I discovered Goodreads entirely. I think I googled sites about connecting with other readers and Goodreads came up. After I looked it up I think I talked with a librarian about it and they told me that it was such an amazing site - and what can I say - they were right! :)

Audrey (niceyackerman) Hollybooks wrote: “Oh thank you!!! It’s getting better, at least it means more time to read😂 thanks so much for the book suggestions, dark matter and the Red Queen series sound awesome so I’ll give them a try! No I’v…”

I loved The Rithmatist, The Screaming Staircase, The Prisoner of Cell 25, Poison Study, and Theft of Swords

message 25: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) I think I had some friend invites to Shelfari and Goodreads a long time ago but never really used them. Then I was trying to keep track of all my books in a spreadsheet, and it was cumbersome, and then I remembered, Hey, isn’t there a website that does this?

Then it was a couple years before I did any social interaction; I got a couple friends by accident and then tried out a group that I ended up loving.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I don't even remember at this point? Its been years ago and I'm so happy I found it though :)

message 27: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 2 comments Hmm, I joined in 2010 and I honestly can't remember either. :) I think it was because I googled a book I wanted to read and one of the search results was linked to a review on goodreads.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I joined back in 2013 because I saw it constantly pop up on my fb feed...I didn’t really become active till just last year...I didn’t realize what I was missing!! I love it 😊

message 29: by Jayson (new)

Jayson (jaysongo) I had a Shelfari account, but never used it. When Amazon bought it they offered a promotional credit if I opened an account or converted my Shelfari account (I forget which). So that happened in 2013. At first I only really used it like a database program to keep track of my reading, it wasn't until August 2017 that I started getting active here.

message 30: by Hamad (new)

Hamad | 3 comments I kept seeing the site whenever I was googling a book, but I didn't know that there was a whole community here! One friend asked me if I have an account and I said no, she advised me to open one to keep track of all the books I am reading, that's how I ended up with an account almost 2 years ago but I only started reviewing and interacting in last June/ July!

message 31: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 2 comments A university friend of mine showed this site to me. Our first semester had just begun and everything was new, but then we discovered that we both love books and reading and started bonding due to that common hobby. I am so grateful for this whole community!

message 32: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (notsuohhannah) | 1 comments I started watching BookTube videos back in 2015 and after hearing about GR from BookTubers, like Christine Riccio, Katytastic, and PeruseProject. I didn't end up joining until the new year and just became obsessed.

message 33: by lacy (new)

lacy white (ravensandlace) I found GR while I was looking through apps to keep track of my books. I needed something where I could rate it and put it in a shelf so I knew what I had read and hadn't read. That is where GR came in and I haven't looked back! lol.

message 34: by Judy (new)

Judy Ohhh (judyohh) | 5 comments I found out about GR via watching some youtube vloggers. they kept mentioning places to follow them, and one day I decided to google "goodreads" and my life has been Forever changed!!

Also folks feel free to add me a s a friend on here :)! I am still relatively new to GR and I am trying to grow my friends, and also find good BR partners :D
