SOLVED. Sci-fi novel about a city (larger area?) controlled by a computer and those trying to shut it down. [s]

Another book from my youth (I read this sometime in the 80's)
Without spoilers - a city is controlled by a computer from a central complex. Two of the main characters (1 male, 1 female) are trying to rebel and need to get into the central core.
(view spoiler)[The girl's father created the computer which runs the city. The computer runs all aspects of people's lives - even controls the weather. At the end of the book, the boy and girl get into the central core to shut the computer down.
The computer protects itself with a red laser which it fires at the boy. The girls jumps in front of the boy to protect him and is hit by the laser. The computer, having injured the daughter of its creator shuts down. He carries her outside to find that she is now blind as a normal (un-controlled) rain starts falling on them... (hide spoiler)]

Yes, that points to out-of-print. And a few editions are rather expensive. Checked for ebooks, which I would prefer and are sometimes cheaper even than used books, nothing.

A word of warning, a Google search for ... ebook throws up a dodgy looking site where it is available for free to download in a few different formats (pdf, doc, txt, Kindle, epub).

Did not do a deep search, but the big stores do not list it as an ebook.
Others from the same author are available, so may be just a matter of time to be published as an ebook?

No idea. The author's deceased. No ebook for it on openlibrary.org. Why wait? I have a paperback and it is an excellent story. The cheapest from abebooks ought to be fine.
