SOLVED. (YA sci-fi/dystopia) Future where people with certain genes could enter the internet/control electronics etc, and they are hunted down as children. Spoiler ahead. [s]

This was a series of books I read somewhere between 2003-2009. Sadly I am a little fuzzy on the exact details, because it has been so long. I do know that they involved distant future where people with certain genes could control electronics, or project themselves into the web just by touching them. While inside the web they would see all the information like rivers, and if attempting to access a specific website with security they might see some sort of entity/watchdog w.e as the manifestation of it. Their existence was deemed illegal by the governments and they were hunted down and killed. Some of them were kidnapped instead of being killed to have tests/studies done to them.

I remember that early in the series the main character has her flying vehicle stolen, but she is able to control it herself, and takes the hijacker on a crazy ride. Later that hijacker ends up working with her. I also remember that in the final book the main character sacrificed herself to stop some threat and saved everyone which was quite sad to me.

I just remembered that she has a sister with the same talent, and she is trying to find and rescue her. It turns out that her sister is one of those who are being tested by the government if I recall correctly.
