Spoiler Discussion (Apr 2018) Group Read - Broken Silence, by Danielle Ramsay

I am about 1/3 of the way through and finding this one to be an enjoyable read. Easy to identify with the main character -- hurting from a job incident as well as personal issues re his marriage

I am questioning police procedures (?), though. Is it likely that one officer would protect another when
A). He has admitted to being involved with a major drug organization
B). He admitted to contact with the murder victim and contaminated the scene to hide his involvement?
Doesn't that seem to be a little too much to believe --- or am I naive?

I enjoyed the book! Dr, Jenkins' insight at the first briefing regarding the savage destruction of the face was a major clue. Added to that was the distraught behaviour of her best friend --- bingo!

Despite the fact that I solved the mystery of "who" before the end of the book, I would still recommend it as a good read

I really enjoyed this one. The funny thing was I just finished watching the French TV show/mini series The Disappeared and there were some similarities, so I guessed the outcome pretty early on. I liked the characters and think that it was a good start to a series. The pacing felt a little rushed in places but overall was good.

I agree about the pace,cal though, overall I thought the story kept moving along. There no chapters, for me, where I was left wondering why the pages had even been included in the story.

I liked this one, too - I'm disappointed that only one of the rest of the series is available on Kindle as yet.

I had a glimmer early on that Evie might be the killer (or possibly Mrs Simmons) - as noted above, Dr Jenkins' analysis was a big clue. I got a bit sidetracked, though, and wasn't sure until the end.

I appreciated Brady's insight - recognising that if it hadn't been for her stepfather, and if authorities had done their jobs, Sophie might not have ended up dead, and reminding us at the end that as tragic as Evie might seem, it was more tragic for the girl she murdered. I also liked Conrad a lot - he plays a wonderful Watson to his boss, both loyal and more sensible, and occasionally quite witty.

The next book in the series goes back in time - I'm not sure, yet, whether we get the backstory of the first book, or if it goes further back. The author integrated Brady's past with Claudia into the story so well that I'm not left with much curiosity about the affair and the end of his marriage.

I agree, David. It was a good read. I just think the suspense of the mystery could have been drawn out a bit more. It was pretty easy to narrow down the field of culprits early on in the book

I'm not sure why I got the impression that the 2nd book in the series was a prequel. It's not - it takes place six months after the first book.
