Welcome to a virtual world of 80's pop culture references!

Has anyone started Ready Player One? If so, what do you think of it? Have you seen the movie?

I'm 200 pages in and while I'm liking the book, I feel there's been at least a good 50 pages that could be deleted with no harm done to the story. I'm also having to work my way through all the 80's references. While an 80's baby, I was too young to appreciate it.

Let us know your first thoughts on the book!

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I enjoyed the book & the video game history. We see the movie Thursday. I already read up on the differences between the movie & the book so I’m not frustrated.

Smart. Based on what I've read so far, I can't see how they could do a direct translation to the screen. There definitely will need to be some major modifications.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the movie once you see it!

Regan Brecke (regbrecke) | 2 comments My 15 yrold son and i Finished this book in Feb! Really enjoyed it! We saw the movie on opening weekend and WOW! So different from the book, but completely enjoyable all the same! Names were the same, concept the same, however the adaptation to the screen gives this fast paced story yields an entirely new experience!

That's good to know! I'm glad they were still able to interpret the book into an enjoyable movie, retaining the same concept. I probably won't get to see it until it's out on DVD but I'm looking forward to it.

Melissa | 58 comments I loved the book so far, but l've been listening to Wil Wheaton read it as an audiobook through one of the library apps. It's been very popular, so I have to wait to finish it. I was born in the 70's, so the cultural references in the book are great. It's been fun to reminisce with my dad and brother who happen to have just re-read the book before going to see the movie. I plan on seeing the movie after I finally finish listening to the audiobook, but I know not to expect it to be anything like the book.
