I remember a book (possibly a series) that I read in ~2006 where the whole society was split up into castes where they would wear robes of a certain color based on their social status. I thought it was a popular book, until I started googling and found 0 answers. Protagonists were certainly kids/teenagers. They escape their city and embark on an adventure. No real idea what follows, except for the fact that the end is a battle between the good guys and a massive army made up of zombies/walking dead (kind of GoT white walkers-esque).
Other random details:
Think cover art was some sort of tower.
Prob ~400-500 pages.
Read in 5th/6th grade, so there is a good chance written for YA.
