I went into this book without high expectations because of the initial reviews, but so far I'm really enjoying it.

Chapters 1-6

I'm curious to know what Bo is running from, but he definitely has to be the guy who is always written in the tea leaves. I thought for sure that Rose was going to be possessed by one of the sisters, but now that Penny has just revealed her ability to see them inside the girls, I'm not sure how that would play out.

I love that the writing is whimisical like a magical realism but also a bit dark and spooky, and "Practical Magic meets Hocus Pocus" is definitely an accurate comparison. I just think they need to do like Vampire Diaries and shut the town down for a "gas leak" every June lol

(view spoiler)[I have some questions about the swan sisters. Were they really witches or just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I also feel like Penny is closer to them more then is said. Also now anther witch hunt as started cause one of the sisters was caught. Also find out why Bo is in Sparrow and it is cause of the sisters. I am thinking that Penny's father was on to something and that is why he vanished. Now they just need to follow his lead and figure out how to stop the curse. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I feel like this is more magical realism than paranormal where they have certain gifts but aren't explicitly witches, like Rose's mom with her memory cakes, and Penny and her mom reading tea leaves.
I got the impression that the sisters only took local boys as their victims, since they are getting revenge on the town, but Bo, Kyle, and (probably) Penny's father were all victims and were outsiders. I imagine there is a connection between Penny and the Swans, but I don't think she and her mother are descendants since they all died so young and there has been no mention of pregnancies or babies yet.
Also, what is up with the police in this town? They're making practically no effort to find a missing girl and don't care that two teenagers are harassing every young female in town, and they can't even put those two things together? Yikes lol

I've read up through Chapter 15 and have exactly 100 pages left.

I'm just hoping she really did steal Heath's boat without him knowing and that he isn't going to be the next boy they find dead! (hide spoiler)]

Finished last night

(view spoiler)[Bo was starting to believe Penny about the sisters and one of my favorite quotes from this book this part of the book "Apparently, Love is the worst kind of madness." I was also thinking that Penny is Hazel. Then found out I was right about Penny and Hazel. We also find out that is was Hazel that killed Bo's brother Kyle. In the end they do work together to break the curse. Hazel does end up sacrificing herself to save the town. Killing herself and in doing so killing her sisters. This wasn't favorite ending but I did enjoy this book. I kind of wish this was series or at least have another set in this universe. Is her new book Winterwood set in this same universe? I also wish that we saw more of the sisters and what they were doing in the town. Over all I enjoyed this book and the way Shea Ernshaw. I will be picking up Winterwood very soon. (hide spoiler)]

I finished today and though I didn't see the plot twist coming, I felt like an idiot because it wasn't hard to figure out lol

I liked the ending because I felt bad for Hazel, but I didn't think it was fair to Penny to keep her body. The only thing I didn't like is that Hazel told Bo not to tell her the truth about her father's disappearance. You would think she would let her have that closure.
I don't think a sequel would be necessary since the curse was broken, but maybe a novella told from the other sisters' perspectives, or a prequel would be interesting. Winterwood sounds like magical realism too so it could be set in the same universe, or at least have the same atmosphere, and I won't wait so long to pick that book up like I did with this one. I liked this one much more than I thought, but I tend to really enjoy books that have mixed or unfavorable reviews.
