Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments The answer is they have answered it many times and nobody like what they say, so of course they are not going to repeat themselves over and over again. An audiobook is considered a book that has been converted to an audio format, not a lecture that was never a book.

On the other note it has never been policy that the lectures were allowed (so that has not changed), it is just that people were ignoring them, or just were not running into them.

Bill GR has repeated itself over and over, yet has still not responded to its users. It simply does not care what we have to say or how we wish to use this site. It's a wonder they even have a feedback option when they clearly don't want to listen to it.

And yet, Lectures in Literature by Nabokov (which is literally transcribed lectures he gave) has not been been changed to NOT A BOOK. Nor has his Lectures on Russian Literature. What about Lectures on Calvinism by Abraham Kuyper? Again, transcribed lectures he gave at Princeton. Problems of Knowledge and Freedom: The Russell Lectures by Noam Chomsky are lectures delivered at Cambridge University. That also hasn't been edited. What about Feynman lectures, considered a classic? Seriously, there are are hundreds of actual transcribed lectures on Goodreads. Just do a search for lectures and over 100 pages come up, all marked as books. This is not about lectures, or all these books would be changed too. This is some gripe Goodreads has against The Great Courses.

Jillian | 20 comments Actually, goodreads staff have NOT responded showing where it is in the policy that the Great Courses are not books. That is why we are being ignored; they cannot back up the change in goodreads policy.

They have not answered the question that Cheryl asked multiple times. What specific part of the librarian manual disallows these?

"An audiobook is ... not a lecture that was never a book"

Some, not all, of the Great Lectures *are* a book plus a lecture series supporting the book. Even though the book is not sold separately, it's a real book that is distinct from the lectures.

I rarely use audiobooks personally, so this doesn't affect me much.

I'm also reaching the same conclusion. Though, I'm completely puzzled by it.

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments Like I said you will not listen to their responses, so they stopped responding.

Can you please share which message post shows the goodreads policy on why they don't count?

This thread is for a specific issue. Please start new threads for unrelated books.

We appreciate all your feedback on this subject, and will be reviewing this policy. Please realize that no final decision has been made, and it may take us some time to arrive at one. We will review both the policy to date and the examples that have been provided, both in this thread and via email.

This thread no longer seems to be productive, so we are closing it. Once a decision has been made, we will let you know what it is. In the meantime, all Goodreads Librarians are expected to follow the current policy. While no Librarian is ever required to make edits to works on Goodreads, all edits are expected to follow current policy.
