Hi, my name is Jean and I love reading all genres but have a great interest in mysteries of all kinds. I am looking forward to reading and discussing books with this group.

Oh, I like Lisa Jewell, too. I just discovered her within the last several months, and I've read three of her books.

Welcome everyone. So Yvonne you're a writer? I keep saying I'm going to write a book but have never even started.
My name is Christine Hatfield and i’m 32 years old and I play the piano and I volunteer at the school and I make and sell bracelets for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey and I have a medical problem
Hi Christine. I play AT the piano :) but I like to try. I used to volunteer at school. The schools need a lot of help - good for you. Hope you'll join in our discussions.
Oh that’s cool Sheri that you play the piano and that’s very cool that you used to volunteer at schools and I would love to in your discussions

do you have a website that shows your bracelets? How long have you been playing the piano? I say I really want to be able to play but then I don't practice so I suppose I'm expecting a miracle to just wake up one morning and be able to do it. My husband used to have a friend (he died due to too much alcohol) who could only play when he was drunk. He played beautifully but couldn't remember it when he was sober and couldn't play sober.

Sheri i’ve been playing the piano for a long time and I have pictures of my bracelets on Facebook and that’s cool that your husband’s friend used to play the piano but that’s a shame that he passed away
Hi everyone. I'm a new author and just recently published my first novel, A Fatal Exception, a Dystopian Sci-Fi Hardboiled Detective story.I was born in the United States and am currently living in Germany. I'm a professional software developer with an expertise in computer security. For many years I was active in the hacker scene and there known and respected as a skilled white hat hacker. In my daily life I design complex systems, investigate disruptions, and sometimes try unusual solutions by thinking outside the box. I draw on my architectural skills while designing my stories and my debugging skills are in many ways similar to those of a detective. Through my technical expertise, particularly regarding software and hacking topics, I'm able to write accurately.
In 2012 I moved to Germany for love and started a family here. As an American living in Europe, I have a somewhat unique view on the world and its politics, and draw inspiration from many of the issues I see in the world to build dystopian settings and make social commentary.
I'm a big fan of science mystery fiction novels like The Caves of Steel, classic detective novels like The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Murder on the Orient Express, and Hardboiled Detective stories like The Maltese Falcon or The Big Sleep.
Hi everyone, I'm new here :) I'm 29, I'm from Portugal and I work in IT as a System Admin. I lived in Czech Republic for 5 years and I moved back to Portugal one month ago.
I love thrillers, mystery and crime books about serial killers, detectives and dysfunctional characters.
In my free time, besides reading, I like to travel, go to concerts, watch series and go for walks.
My favorite type of music is alternative rock and indie rock.
Hi, everyone. I teach creative writing and literature, and I love to read in all genres (but with a preference for mysteries/thrillers, historical novels, and women's literature). I've published a children's book and an adult mystery novel, and I have two more mysteries ready to go and a third underway. I'm currently reading The Alice Network. I'm looking forward to hearing about your reading preferences. --Saralyn Richard
Hi Saralyn, it's great to meet you. I always admire writers and authors and I hope your published works are doing well. I'm the True Crime moderator here, but I read all kinds of crime as well as general fiction, biographies and self-help type books etc. I love classic novels too - Dickens, Austen, Tolstoy, Trollope, the Bronte sisters.I'll look out for your work.
Thanks, Maureen. I share your love for the classics, as well. I have a hard time finding a type of book I don't enjoy. How do you like being a moderator?
Saralyn said: How do you like being a moderator?I'm fairly new at it, but enjoying it. There's a great group of other moderators in this Group to help me find my feet. It's also a good way to get to know other people here from all around the world. We're still looking for a Games moderator if anyone is interested.
Saralyn wrote: "Games, as in the scrabble, and other word games? I might be interested."Hi Saralyn, it's the Gameroom section in this Group, e.g. Good Book Runon, Movie/Author, ABC of Crime/Mystery words. If you are interested please send a message to Gem or Jenny who will tell you what's involved.

Hi Saralyn and Mike. It took me a while to learn to navigate around here but I finally caught on. I play some of the games and let me tell you it can be addictive - but in a fun way.
Mike, there are a lot of suggestions and reviews here for good books. Sometimes we'll get a heads up about one offered on Amazon for free. I always grab those for when I'm not involved in one of our book discussions.
Glad you've both found us.

Greetings, Sheri and Mike, and everyone else. I enjoy everything about Goodreads, especially the friendly and interesting readers I've met. Cheers!
Hi. Jack Heath from Markham, Canada here. I recently created "A Basic Mystery and Thriller Compilation." Took a year! 4,000 or so titles, all with short reviews - the books and especially authors I'd like to read. It includes most, if not all, "Best Novels" from 11 annual prize awards - Shamus, Agatha, Edgar, etc. Plus many "Top 100s" (or so) recommended by Haycraft, Queen and 23 others. Added are hundreds of the latest popular mysteries and thrillers from Amazon and Goodreads, plus some I have read with longer reviews. And a few adventure titles. I was really looking for new authors and thought this might be the route. It worked; I found that many of the authors and titles appear multiple times. Feel free to check it out and let me know your thoughts. Jack H.
Hello to all you mystery lovers! It is my favorite genre although I do love several genres & will try out some that I don't love just to see if I'm missing out on anything good. I will gradually get through all the posts on this thread, but thought I would introduce myself while I have a few free minutes. I'm retired, a mother to 2 wonderful sons, a fantastic daughter-in-law & 3 grandchildren … a girl & 2 boys. Sadly, my youngest son died suddenly a little over 3 years ago & my husband followed him 15 months later. We miss them terribly. My husband loved mysteries, as well, & I have several complete series in the house that I gathered for him. Lots of great reading material at hand. It's a comforting thing, especially during the winter months. I'm a Special Olympics coach & we stay busy all through the year with 4 sports, monthly dances & other fun things to do. My oldest son lives with me. He is 'differently-abled' … or DD as some call it. We have a great time. Their softball team just won gold in regionals & will go to state next month for the first time. I'm so proud of them!
Hello,I have loved reading mysteries most of my life. I did use to try other genres but have gravitated to mystery because it keeps my mind active.
I missed many years reading because of my job but now I'm trying to catch up following retirement. I can spend an entire day getting through a really good volume.
I have even tried my hand at putting together a cozy mystery of my own, but I had rather be reading.
I have one son and two grandson's and also try to spend family time with them on a regular basis.
I am enjoying being retired and love trying the many things i never found time for while I was employed.

Our son was diagnosed with cancer December 9th of last year and died March 15th. We're just barely keeping ourselves together at this point. Sorry you lost 2 precious people so close together. I read all sorts of books, I'm in a book club, but I go back to mysteries as fast as I can. I worked at the special Olympics games one time. Congrats on the win. From what profession did you retire?
Glad you found our group.

I'm retired from nursing and I know what you mean about work stealing reading time. I hope you'll join some of our discussions.
