Introductions

I’m Allie from Michigan. I’ve been looking for new groups here on GR because I’ve really been getting into group & buddy reads this year and hope to continue that!
My favorite genres are Historical Fiction, Mysteries (Cozy and darker/Thriller types), and The classics, but I’ll read anything if it catches my interest. Tend to stay away from romance however.
Looking forward to conversing with all of you :)

Welcome Allie! We’d love to have you participate in any (or all 😉) of our group discussions. Check out our monthly & cozy group reads. Hope to see you on our threads!

New to groups on Goodreads and this is the first one I’ve joined. The book choices in this group seemed the most interesting and varied. Like Allie, I too am from Grand Rapids, MI (small world!).
I am 28 and work in finance. I prefer to listen to my books nowadays so I can multitask, and also like to cross stitch and partake in things from Japan.
Lately I have been into thrillers/mysteries but dabble across all fiction.
Thank you for having me!

Just bought my 1st ebook reader (Paperwhite) and still getting use to it. Looking forward to being a part of this group! DN

Welcome, Bruce to the group. What are your favourite Mystery Authors?
Hi to all the new members I neglected to greet personally. Welcome to the group and I hope you enjoy the books that are selected. If anyone has suggestions or ideas we're open to them. ~Gem

Happy reading!

Straight, but a fan of New Wave music - particularly New Order. Jimmy Eat World is my all-time favorite, though. San Diego Padres superfan, Los Angeles Chargers superhater.
Live in a household of two: me & my Beagle dog, Beacon. I'm a Pisces, 6', Blood A, I like long walks on the beach, nice...what's that you say? Oh, I thought this was a personal! Oh well, it's nothing a little Copy and Paste magic can't fix. If you'll excuse me...

A native NY’er and live an easy commute away now.
I have a dog , Keira, who is truly maddening w/accident’s
I just won my fourth round of breast Ca.
I have 3 children: g, b, b and a son in law and 1
Grandchild.
I love reading, from a very early age. TY Aunt Madge for teaching me before I began first grade.
I love knitting, but I can’t right now, due to the left armpit nerve center that was attacked in a lymph node or two and they were around my left hand. So I still can’t
knit. Ca is gone from there but the nerves aren’t back to snuff. They’re much better but still can’t knit. Ggrrrrrr!!
My husband retired last January and is now doing his second job. He’s working 2 days a week at the college we graduated from, and taught a course over intercession.
So I can’t think of anything else of note. Ok wrong, I come from a very loving family of origin. I’m the fourth or 4 girls. And I have many good friends who helped me tremendously when I went through my other scary CA
reoccurrence’s. So I am blessed, in many, many ways.
I have a tremendous amount to be grateful for and I am.

John, you made me laugh. It is important, when involved in a book discussion, that everyone share their type. 😊 Glad you've joined our group.

Man you've really been through a tough time. I'm the 2nd of 4 girls. I've tried my hand at knitting but just can't do it well so can't really make myself get into it. I have knitted a few things though and crocheted a thing or two in my day too. Glad you've beat the cancer and welcome to our group. Please join in some of the discussions if you haven't already.

Well I've been on this site and a group member for a few years now so a bit late in filling this bit in but here goes.
I'm Mike, I grew up in Lancaster Lancashire but now live and work in Watford, I work as a Chemistry teacher which i have now been doing for 18 years and I still love 90% of my job - I just hate the paperwork.
Favourite authors is a hard one as it does change but they include John Grisham, Linda La Plante, Val McDermid and Ian Rankin.
When I was at school I hated reading as I saw it as more work and also being dyslexic and stumbling over lots of things when having to read aloud when at school really put me off it. However, at university I joined one of those mail order book clubs as since then I have always had a book on the go and I have now found a love of reading. Also reading aloud - I found turning the book upside down helped (that REALLY freaks people out when on a train).
Oh well I'll stop babbling now and get back to my book and coffee - with home made stem ginger shortbread.

Hello Mike. Since you didn't enjoy reading what prompted you to join the mail order book club? And did you make the shortbread?

Hi Barbara and welcome. I read that you're joining the Louise Penny focus. Glad you've found us.

Barbara, I thought it was just me and I didn't know what I was doing (which is the case a lot of the time). I don't like the way GR works on my iPad either. It doesn't show everything and the comment section is just plain wrong.

I am a happily married 41-year-old Canadian who loves to read. I often have 2 books on the go, usually a hardcover mystery and an epub paranormal/urban fantasy. But really I will read just about anything.
I love animals, traveling, food and music. Movies & TV are awesome too and I am also an avid penpaller. Yes, I write old-fashioned snail mail :)
Looking forward to chatting about some great books!

Hi Karin and welcome, writing letters is a lost art, kudos to you!

Hi Karin. I like snail mail too and have joined the Postcard Exchange right here on Goodreads. It's fun getting cards from different states and different countries. I've enjoyed reading mystery books most of my life, even as a child. Something about the not knowing until the end grabs me. Glad you've joined us.

I was a Nancy Drew fan as a girl, and once I was out of college I started reading mysteries and never stopped. I also like the classics, but after spending the last 4 months reading the Brothers Karamazov I need my mysteries back! Looking forward to discovering some new authors here.

I have long been a fan of mystery but mostly watched them on TV. Now I get to read these wonderful stories that no one had thought to transform into a film. Most of the time, the book is way better than the film.
I live in North Carolina and have begun to explore the possibility of penning my on cozy one of these days.
I hope to enjoy communications with fellow mystery fans.

I have read all of the Rex Stout/Nero Wolfe mysteries at least 4 times, about every 5 years, to remind me of great plotting and characters and mood and a sense of place. Ironically, I doubt Stout would be published in today’s book world, as his genre would be considered outmoded.
