Moony (nothnglasts) Hi! I'm Svetlana, from Minsk, Belarus. Crime novels and thrillers have always been my favorite types of stories, in addition to horror ones. I think the book that really got me into thrillers is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and she's still one of my most highly respected authors. I'm quite new to Goodreads groups and so on but I'll be happy to take part in book discussions :)

Hello, Everyone – My name is Nick Dager. I was born in Ohio and graduated high school and college in Illinois. After college I worked for many years as a journalist for a suburban Chicago daily newspaper before leaving to attend New York University’s Graduate School of Film & Television. I’m happily married and have one wonderful grown daughter.

Along the way, I was lucky enough to be hired to write two Hardy Boys mysteries: The Dead Season and Uncivil War. As a lifelong reader and writer, I can’t remember when I first fell in love with mysteries, but I can share who some of my favorite writers are. At the top of my list are Dick Francis and John Le Carre. Once I discover a writer I enjoy, I try to read their entire series straight through. My current favorite is Elizabeth Peters and I’m about halfway through her Amelia Peabody series. Other favorite writers, in no particular order, are Michael Connelly, Lee Childs, Martin Cruz Smith, John Grisham, Scott Turow, and many of the Scandinavian police procedural writers, although I find some of them to be too intense for my taste. My wife, on the other hand, really loves hard-boiled mysteries, the more violence the better.

Today we live in Danbury, Connecticut where I’m the editor and publisher of the website Digital Cinema Report, which covers professional motion picture business and technology. I look forward to getting acquainted with many of you and to sharing our love of mysteries. – Nick

Hi Nick and OMG about the Hardy Boys. LOVE them and their friend Nancy Drew.

Glad you've joined us.

message 460: by Nick (new)

Nick Dager Thanks, Sheri. They were a lot of fun to write but the work didn't pay very well so I stopped at two. Still, it's kind of thrilling to be a tiny part of our culture. And I love the thought of all those ten-twelve year olds reading something I wrote and falling in love with mysteries.

message 461: by Bruce (new)

Bruce | 3267 comments Hi Nick. I’m originally from CT, but live in Tampa now.

I grew up with the Hardy’s as did my dad in the 50’s. I think I only read one of the case files series. I mostly read the 50’s series. One thing my dad was always upset about was that his mom either gave away or sold all his Hardy boys books. I think it might have been after he moved out.

Sad that most younger people don’t know them.

message 462: by Nick (new)

Nick Dager Hi, Bruce - Nice to meet you. I'm not so sure that young people aren't reading. The Hardy Boys Case Files series is up to more than a hundred titles, so someone's buying those books. Like you, the stories were a big part of my childhood. Look forward to your comments. - Nick

Torri Valderrama Hello everyone! My name is Torri and I have always enjoyed reading for as long as I can remember. Thrillers are my all time favorite genre but I love a good crime and mystery book as well. I graduated college with a Sociology degree with a concentration in Criminology so I have always been interested in crime. If anyone wants to know more about me, feel free to ask!

Janet Pywell (httpswwwgoodreadscomjanetpywell) | 4 comments Hello everyone,

I've been on Goodreads for a few years but I'm just getting to grips with it all. There are so many social media avenues to learn and what groups to belong to, to meet like-minded authors & readers.

I'm a crime writer and I'm launching a new series in the next couple of weeks. I'm often looking for people (experts) to contact for research in my novels.

For example, I have interviewed opera singers, drone experts, police and more recently kick boxing champions. I was also lucky to have the help and advice on adoption from Ariel Bruce one of the experts from ITV's Long Lost family.
Research opens up a new world to me and creates an authentic narrative for my readers.

message 469: by Nick (new)

Nick Dager Hi, Janet - Nice to meet you virtually. I've only been on Goodreads a short time and it makes me feel better to learn that it may take quite a while to come to terms with it. I have a seven-book mystery series that and am trying to promote within the rules of various groups and would like to compare notes. My hero is the editor of a daily newspaper in a fictional small town in Ohio and is loosely based on my experiences as a reporter. Good luck in your search for experts. I agree that research is both fun and makes stories feel more authentic. - Nick

Melissa (Nissa_the.bookworm) (mri42491) | 3 comments Hello! My name is Melissa. I’ve been a member of Goodreads for almost 7 years now, but I haven’t used the platform much since first joining. This year I decided to make a pact with myself: read more! I have a ridiculous amount of books that haven’t even been touched yet. 😅 I’m also a huge fan of mystery/thrillers. My all time favorite author is Agatha Christie. She’s really something special. More modern authors that I enjoy are Ruth Ware and Shari Lapena. I’m a mom of 2 boys under 3 that are my absolute world. And I’m a huge fan of the giveaways offered here on Goodreads! Nice to meet all of you!

Hi and welcome everyone.

Hope you'll join our discussions. It's interesting and fun to find out what others think of books I've read. Sometimes it makes me want to go back and re-read because I've totally missed what someone else has gotten from the book.

Look at our nomination sections and nominate one you want to get off your shelf and let's read it.

James Conway | 1 comments Good Day,

My name is James N. Conway and I am a writer. Currently and during the past few years, I am mostly venturing around Afghanistan, occasionally bumping into insurgents, secret police officers, and diplomats.

Given my love for espionage novels and the realisation that there are few, if any spy thrillers with a non-Western perspective set in Afghanistan and/or Central Asia, I attempted to change this and wrote Cross-Border, a spy novel with non-Western characters mainly set in Afghanistan and Tajikistan (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...).

As I am new to goodreads, I am looking forward to see what the community here has to offer. So please reach out if you have any good suggestions.

Cheers,

James

Nick Dager Thanks for getting back to me, Janet. Good to connect with you as well. Sales have not been strong to date, but the people who have read the books have all given some very positive reviews. You seem to be more adept at social media than I am, but I'm learning. At the moment I'm about eighty percent of the way through the first draft of the eighth book in the series, Attribution. All of the stories begin on a holiday, which in this case is Valentine's Day, and, yes, love is at the heart of the murders. And you? - Nick

message 475: by Janet (new)

Janet Pywell (httpswwwgoodreadscomjanetpywell) | 4 comments I'm currently launching (rapid release) 3 books in my new Ronda George thrillers. My protagonist is a kickboxing and masterchef champion who is the 'eyes and ears' for an Inspector from Europol.
Fortunately, I'm getting some great reviews.
It's always daunting finishing one series and staring with a new (and hopefully strong female) protagonist but I'm getting some great reviews.
Your books sound great - I'll look them up. Janet

message 476: by Nick (new)

Corvus (surinyacstory) | 1 comments Hello everyone, my name is Corvus!

I made this account literally two days ago but I'm already in love with everything that is in here. I'm going to be 21 this year and I'm still at university, so sadly I don't have that much time to read. I've actually never had that much time.

Even with that, I've grown up (still am in a way) surrounded by thriller and crime stories, mostly on movies or series, but I've always loved reading and writing. I'm kind of disappointed in myself since I don't read as much as I would like to, but hopefully this will push me forward and have time to enjoy!

If anyone wants to chat with me I'm always open for a nice conversation!

Monica Hi everyone! My name is Monica, 42 years, and I'm from the Netherlands. Although I read almost everything I prefer mysteries and thrillers, especially the suspense-ones (although I can tolerate the flow of some blood well). I've browsed the bookshelf and saw some books I've already read and liked or would like to read - so I'm excited to join!

Kirsten (kmcripn) | 32 comments Hi, Monica! Welcome! My mother's family originally came from Freesland (Friesland?). Do you like Lisa Jewell? Or Jane Corry? Or do you like a different kind of suspense?

message 490: by Monica (new)

Monica Thanks Kirsten! Lisa Jewell I know and like. Jane Corry not yet but good tip! But those are the kind I like: Normal people in suspenceful situations.
It's Friesland, some people there speak the Fries language and they call it Fryslân. It's in the far north of the Netherlands, which means a two hour drive max inside the borders (we're tiny). It's nice there, well known for sailing on the lakes in summer and ice skating in winter.

I love thrillers and mysteries with twist endings and I just love it when I can't put the book down.
My love for mysteries and thrillers began with the Nancy Drew series when I was a kid, and I have since graduated to authors like Stephen King.

I am super excited to be a part of a group like this!

Sam “My Cosy Book Nook” | 1 comments Hi everyone. I'm Sam and I live on the border between the West Midlands and Staffordshire, UK. Or, as I prefer to think of it, the boundary between Angela Marsons and Noelle Holten's writing territories. I've been hooked on crime fiction ever since reading my first Agatha Christie novel at the age of 12 and now love reading Ian Rankin, Peter Robinson, Peter James, Angela Marsons and S E Lynes to name but a few.

My lockdown project has been a book review blog, which went live this morning: https://mycosybooknook.wordpress.com/. Please feel free to take a look and I'd be really grateful for any follows, comments or shares!
