Indeed, it is my first nomination. Hard to pick a favourite track, but I knew that it had to be one from the majestic "So Runs The World Away" album - an album that unspools more like a literary novel than a record, full of stories, vivid imagery and his brilliant trademark lyrics.Girl In The War

I do really like quite a few of the Songs, and there certainly are some very beautiful and some very clever Lyrics too, and I can also recognise that the guy can sing ... but unfortunately I don't like or rate his voice as being anything that is in any way unique, or distinctive, or memorable to me at all - and that's one of the things that matters the most when it comes to me liking Singers ... sorry, Rob ;o<
Fair enough. If you don't like the voice, that's a difficult thing to get past. I don't rate David Bowie for the same reason, even though I recognise that I'm in a very small minority.I think that Josh Ritter has got a decent voice, but it's the lyrics and music that put him head and shoulders above most singer/songwriters for me.
He does have a very decent voice but I personally tend to go all out for voices that I can immediately recognise and distinguish from all of the others on the Music Scene - even if I've never heard the Song that they are singing before. Unfortunately I can't seem to manage to do that with Josh Ritter.If I tell you that I'm a massive and lifelong Erasure and Freddie Mercury fan perhaps that might help to explain it far better - LOL! ;o>

You’re not alone about Bowie, Rob. I was always completely neutral about him and don’t own anything by him. My husband felt the same way.
Good to know I'm not on my own then!Melody, lyrics, proper instruments, atmosphere - that's the four things that tend to dictate whether I like a song/album/artist.
Sorry gang, zonked out in my chair last night, blissfully unaware that I had a game to close off.OK, winner this round, Tim's nom, The Curse. Two points behind and grabbing the silver, Rob's own nom Rattling Locks, and filling the podium, SJ with Getting Ready To Get Down.
Have to admit, I had a go at the playlist - not for me I'm afraid but I am glad that a few of you seemed to enjoy this artist.
Not a bad artist Rob...and although I thought some of songs were more country orientated, at least to my ears, there were some in that playlist that I enjoyed.....I'm still listening to Mind's eye.Well done to the winners & to Rob on his first artist nomination.

Not guilty m'lud. The Curse was nommed by Brassy; mine was Idaho.
The Curse is a worthy winner - a brilliant story with exceptional original storytelling. To be honest, Duke, I'd say that most of his best songs didn't even make the playlist. I enjoy his country songs less because I think his more original and clever stuff is what makes him special.
If you have time to listen to "So runs the world away" in it's entirety, I'd highly recommend it.
Wiki says he has 9 albums out, so there should be plenty to choose from.
