In fact you should probably get your $$ back from them. A copyeditor who cannot tell the edited from the unedited version of a story is probably not even trying.

Btw the editor did a good job the breakdown came from the publisher representative. Mixing up the edited copy with my original copy unedited.
The publisher has agreed to republish soon.

I just saw that Dave Cullen has written a book about the Parkland school shootings Parkland: Birth of a Movement . If it is even half as good as Columbine it will be great, though a tough subject matter.
My reading will probably be way down for a while. I took the Ancestry DNA test and last week started my family tree. It is fascinating and I am absolutely hooked on it. So for a while that is going to be my biggest passion.

So that's where you've been!

Only 8 books read so far this month when I normally have 10 or 12.

They send you a little test tube and you spit in it.

Something I just learned is that you dont have to do the DNA test to use Ancestry.com. You dont even have to pay to use it. You can start your family tree for free but I found out that while there is a lot you can see for free there is a lot more you can see and do if you want to pay the monthly fee, which isn't expensive, I dont think. I paid for 6 months for $50.

Yea we had it at the library so if you are a library member and use it there its free as the library pays for subscription.
I never really got into it as its more for English speaking ppl, they dont have many records for Chinese families from China.
My brother researched that side of it so he went into archives etc. but dont think he got very far back...in China most people have ancestral tablets and worship ancient ancestors anyway. But a lot of those records got destroyed by the communist govt in the cultural revolution.

He is a comedian and actor. http://www.billyconnolly.com/
I remember him in the film Mrs. Brown but he has been in a ton of films.

Selina, what you find out depends on where you send it for testing. Ancestry, unsurprisingly, strictly deals with finding people you are related to. 23andMe not only finds people you are related to but actually connects them to you on social media. It also tells you a lot of disheartening stuff about diseases that run in your family and how likely to are to die of one of those diseases. I sent mine to National Geographic, which tells you what percentage of your DNA belongs to which ethnic groups, at what period in ancient history they left Africa to seek their fortunes elsewhere, and what percentage of your DNA is human vs. Neanderthal. (In this sense -- and only in this sense -- am I one of the 1%.)

I know that twin boys run in my family...although I dont see them run actually. My sister is the one who runs the marathons.

I didnt do the health ancestry test but Ancestry.com does have a health DNA test if you want it is extra.
Yesterday I found out I was not related to Edgar Allan Poe. I always wondered because I do have some ancestors named Poe and through ancestry I found out that the Poe name is only handed down through marriage, a great-grandmother's second husband. I traced that ancestor back to the late 1700's and there was no Edgar, which would have been pretty distant anyway, because neither Edgar or his siblings had any children. However, there was an Adelbert Poe, which I thought was a wonderful name.
Copied this from the internet:
Descendants of Edgar Allan Poe
Many are actually descendants of Poe’s cousins, especially Neilson Poe, but others are no relation at all. A line of Poes from Virginia seems to be unrelated, although they may share ancestry in the dim mists of Ireland’s past.
The last Poe's I found were from Virginia, so I guess that solves it.

Just wondering how everyone is doing in regards to the virus. Everyone got enough toilet paper! LOL! I feel bad for the people having to shut down their businesses. Our school is out for 2 weeks but my Iowa grandkids are out for a month and there is talk of just calling it a school year and they will be out til September. Feel bad for kids that are seniors and will miss all of their end of the year activities. But so far we do not have the virus in our area so that is a good thing. One of my co-workers decided to take a 2 week leave, possibly longer, so I will get some extra hours but the doctor is hoping to make do with less staff because patients are staying home unless they absolutely need to come in. If the state closes down chiropractors than I will not be working at all. They have already closed dentists except for emergencies. How are all of you doing?

If we do end up closing I have a plan to let children borrow up to 20 books and extend the borrowing times.
We have a few cases in Auckland but everyone is self isolating. And travelers are warned they will be deported if they break the rules.

Interesting Koren are you a fan of Poe?

Many things are closed here, of course. This state has 218 confirmed or presumptive cases so far out of nearly 7 million people (but there are no doubt more with mild or no symptoms), so not terrible percentage wise, but this is more catching than the flue or ebola (less catching than SARS) but it's not just that, it's also how serious it can get.
I'm not that worried about the virus too much, so I'm just doing what I always do now--put my hands in a jacket pocket to open doors in public, etc--now I wear my black gas pumping glove to handle store carts, etc (it's so my hand doesn't stink like gas fumes and I only have one of them left).

I love The Raven and the one about the black cat. I have a book that is a collection of his works but I think it would be more interesting if I had someone to discuss it with or explain it.

Our stores are getting restocked now and limiting some things to one per customer. Today our state closed down all hair salons. Hope that doesnt last too long or there are going to be some pretty shaggy people. I foresee a run of store bought hair dye!

So Im not sure if I will still have my job next month.
I will still be paid at the school though, even if we need to stay home.

Thankfully I heard about it sooner otherwise I would have missed out as I have books on request.

All current library loans have been renewed to June 1st and that's not a typo. So I'm resigned to the very high probability that my library will be closed for more than the announced 18 days. Of course, I understand the reasoning, and my library offers multiple electriconic platforms so I will be reading e-books once I finish my little pile of loans. E- books aren't my preferred form but I'm grateful to have that instead of nothing.

I believe it's not a typo. I dont remember the exact date mine are due but I think it's in June.

I wouldnt mind having a six week holiday again...we lose out on Easter anyway. I could just do book deliveries instead for those stuck at home. The pop up fridges are open 24/7 anyway so will just be stocking those up.

I learned that my family ethnic Hx is nothing like what I was told. I was shocked to learn I was 70% Celt for instance. I was told almost all my life I was mostly German, and later learned they were really German Jews. Apparently even they didn't know they were bog-trotters.

My dad's side is almost 100 percent German but ancestry.com says I am only 43 percent German ancestry.

I have plenty of books to get on with reading and bought a few childrens ones for the library, but now wont be getting new books till after this crisis is over.
I guess we just need to get on with writing our own books once we finished reading our piles.

the mall seemd very crowded on Saturday, Im not sure I really want to go back to work on Saturdays now. The bookshop wasnt crowded but it seemed outside the mall was.

Most places are opening here tomorrow. Restaurants and hair salons will not open for two weeks. They are open in Iowa and South Dakota so I have heard a lot of Minnesota people are going there.

I have learned some Chinese words and phrases...but no chinese stories.
Would love to buy new books but am just assessing my libraries collection at the moment seeing what we need.

Isn't it nice to say I "get" to go to work instead of I "have" to go to work!
I was lucky that I got in for a haircut right before the shutdown. I've been trying to grow it longer for about a year and this has forced me to get used to it and I kinda like it. Our hairdressers are opening June 1 and I have an appointment June 5.
