I felt like I was getting bashed over the head with all the MEANT TO BE! I wasn't real attached to Mac and Barrons so their mural thing was whatever I was like "ok just don't do that to Ryodan and Dani if they get together". I just feel like it's so damn cheap. What was the point of the whole love affair if one of the person's all knowing, knows their epic lady love has arrived. How boring. Like I find it way more fun to go on the journey see the damn twists and turns. But I guess all the men in this series just know everything at this point and don't need to evolve as characters and along in the relationship like the stupid women do hohoho
I know some people loved that part, think it's sweet though so maybe it's just my demonic unromantic ass showing idk.

So this was one of my biggest issues. She still loves dancer- which is fine- she been talks about when they meet again. Like his and her red thread will meet again. So...is ryodan just a place holder until then? I know its more than reasonable to love more than one person but when you are contemplating having cray sex for like entirety with your beast dude but then nostalgically talk about when i meet dancer again within pages of each other- it kind of cheapens both great supposed love affairs. apparently Dancer knew Dani was going to be all that and bag a chips- ryodan only needed a falling star thing to point him in the right direction. Ry you are a tool.

In reality for me it seemed as though if dancer would have lived for eternity, ryodan never had a shot, to me at least. lol I've thought about the whole Dancer thing. trying to think about where things went downhill (it's my way of grieving lmao)I think Dancer originally was just intended to be the young love Dani loses her virginity to because it would be inappropriate to make it Ryodan. I remember the author mentioning she loved Dancer and it was hard to let him go. I think this has something to do with those mixed signals in the book tbh. Dancer was so great so refreshing for a male character in this series. I don't think it was ever the intention for Dani/Dancer to have a full fledged relationship. They got what, 3 days to be together? Before the author kills him off to make way for Ryodan's allegedly true epic love. The way Dancer was taken out makes you wonder what could have been since we didn't even see that relationship in the first place. I think it was also used to show Ryodan Killian SAINT James is such a good guy, so benevolent that he lets Dani have sex with someone other than him. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that Dani did get to experience Dancer's relationship it was one of my favorite parts of FS.
In the end I think Dancer and Dani's love affair was more epic than Ryodan and Dani's lol. Like you said June he knew from the jump Dani was special and he understood her in ways Ryodan didn't even understand her, like with Jada. Ryodan was so rude to call him a damn short timer (the disrespect to my poor geek boi!) but Dancer's ass lit up those few pages with everything he had- eat that Ryodan! lmao Like Dancer was out there making pizzas for his girl AWC. You realize the work behind that? Wasn't like there was delivery or Digiorno! I bet he even hand tossed that pizza. What did Ryodan feed her? artificial snacks from the trunk of his ferrari? that lazy fool. I'll take Dancer any day of the week, a man who makes you pizza is one worth keeping around. He literally put everything he had into their lovemaking, he devoted his literal life to it. He worked on his fitness to look good for Dani even knowing he could die!

And one other thing to address for my sanity. so another epic thing ryodan did was have barons chain him up-starving himself- so that dani could have some time to get her shit together and sleep around??? what???this isn't epic-- this is a painful thing called--she's just not that into you right now. Seriously if you need to be chained up so your girl can go find herself by sleeping around dublin because you know you would kill every dude she does the nasty with says to me maybe this isn't going to work out.

I thought he was doing something epic in faery maybe fighting the tribunal. then we find out he locked himself in a cage and starved himself. Like what? The women of this series have to deal with far worse than self inflicted beast house arrest. The nine were reduced to some weird ass uncontrollably horny men. They can't see a naked women without raping them? Um is this for real?? Did I read that right?? I'm sorry I just don't see Dani thinking him willingly caging himself as some sort of alleged heroic act considering her childhood. She hates cages, values people making the most of their time. The cool calculating man who excels at the long game can't go without murdering guys that Dani chooses to sleep with? Like I get he's a beast but like this is wild! lmao How is any facet of this healthy or desirable? I feel like I'm missing something.

Yes June!!!!! preach it lmao. I included some of this in my review but that scene disturbed me so much and then to top it off we find out Lor was just chillin watching on debating whether or not to help Dani from getting raped but figured "nah, she's got this she's my lil honey" Dani should've ripped his heart out personally the moment he said that. You can't smooth everything over with a "honey" Lor! you walking embodiment of the dumb blonde bimbo stereotype!! how come no one ever calls him out on his foolery, he's a total flop. Can't even protect Dani for shit. Dani's always getting shit on in these books lmao
I know such wasted potential, Ryodan and Dani in Iced were so epic and connected together in battle and they never again had one of those moments since. I don't think that whack ass battle at that knock off chester's or that one page take out of Balor showed them working as a team the same way.
I hated how all the blame got shifted onto Dani for not calling him-Dani even buys into it! Even though he left her and made it very clear she wasn't wanted to tag along. Stupid Dani didn't even take that as an invitation to ring him up what the hell was her problem! And all this drama over a damn phone call! lmao this was more like a storyline you'd see on the real housewives than a fever series plot. only nowhere near as fun :(
Grrrr you guys are inducing my indignation again! (the whole Ryo plot from HV is enough the make me see red LOL)Im beginning to have the feeling KMo didn't want to write Dani anymore after Iced. It came out of her spontaneously, because she didn't want to write Mac/Barrons again after SF (good gut feeling, wish she had followed it!), and then it caused bunch of mess, purely driven by the demographics of her fanbase. Which she let affect her since she is way too involved with her fans. And so she found herself unable to pick the Dani story back again.
And as a result she wrote the whole Dani story weirdly, from POVs of anybody but Dani's, postponing the actually Ryo/Dani showdown till the very last pages of the very last book.. and even then it came out weirdly and unwillingly and also (importantly) - finite. So that she doesn't have to go back to Dani's POV and story-telling again.
Now there are plans for the ever-going Fever world and good for her and all her remaining fans... but that doesn't erase the fact that she let down a great portion of her fans through Dani's story. I just wished she'd commit to the story she was telling and wasn't experimenting with her writings on us...

No really thank you guys. I needed a laugh and your fanfic had the humor and energy that was sorely missing from HV. I thought that considering all the hype KMM gave over a Dani, it would at least be a fun read (I mean it is called High Voltage). Anyways, thanks again for delivering and embracing the quirks of each character in a way I haven't seen for a while!

Honestly I never really cared too much for Mac but good or bad she was such a distinct character, in a world of the kind of tomboy badass heroine in urban fantasy, Mac's unabashed femininity really set her apart. Now she's more like grey mac instead of rainbow girl lmao. Honestly I feel like all the female characters are kind of merging in to one in this series. They all even have the same style, leather pants, leather jackets, combat boots lmao can u imagine all the squeaking every time these people move around? like that one snl skit with britney spears trying on all leather outfits (man this took some digging to find lmao http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-liv... )

I hear you, girl!! I still don't get why Dani needed to lose all her distict personality traits in the process of 'growing up'. She sounded like Mac in HiVo. Makes sense now why we didn't get any teasers before the book launch, obsessive people like us would probably have noticed the change in tone lol. Would be kinda interesting to see if KMM takes in any critique about this for the next book...
@Carol, I agree that name was a total misdirection, this book was not electric at all. To be fair, she did say this book had a different feel than the rest, but it never occurred to me that it was a fancy way of saying Dani has become a dud.

Yes!!! A total WTF moment. I was thinking he was doing something important off world and the big bad had trapped him so that he couldn't be with her-so I was totally gobsmacked when he revealed where he had been. I think I was more shocked than Dani!!!! LOL

Further proof that Lor is a waste of space. So much for being a protective alpha male. Although, in fairness to KMM and her consistency as an author, I always thought the bit where Ryo claimed that he had 'been' there to 'look after her' when Jayne stole Dani's sword and left her lying injured in the street was always a little bit suspicious too. I mean, in Christian's PoV he never mentions that Ryo did anything to direct him find Dani and help her-how could he have done that anyway? And then he has the cheek to make Dani her change her clothes afterwards because he didn't like the smell of Christian on her. I mean, get real. You either want someone else to rescue your girl for you or not and you accept the consequences. If he was so possessive that he could not stand the smell of Christian on Dani, why on earth did he allow Christian to rescue her if he was already there and could have rescued her himself?

lol yeah this book was more like Static Electricity than high voltage. Fitting since Dani was doing her laundry for a big chunk of it and clothes usually come out the dryer with static electricity hohoho@Emily yes! I missed Dani's ferocious confidence in her abilities, even as Jada she had that. And I missed Dani's unshakeable belief that being in Dublin saving people in her city was her place, where she was 100% supposed to be. I think this is why the ending didn't work for me, Dani only getting to be in Dublin half of the time? Not only did it feel like her even getting this option was a total cop out so she can screw Ryodan part time, I don't believe Dani would be happy committing to Dublin half way. I think K Mo wanted to make her epic and legendary, but the whole point of Dani was the she already WAS epic and legendary and not for just for her superpowers. The worst most offensive and frankly unforgivable (dramatic I know, I'm wounded lmfao) part of this whole mess is that she made Dani boring without Ryodan . That's just straight up blasphemy.
@Mellifluous yes there's a lot of those moments like you mentioned, especially in Burned where she tried to backtrack and make Ryodan's actions seem better in retrospect. It ended up making no sense. Like how Ryodan supposedly heard Dani's bibliophile joke as she went into the white mansion with christian. But in Iced Dancer and Jo tell Dani Ryodan went all wild trying to find her and he's so mad when she returns he bashes her damn face into a column. Do these sound like the actions of a man who knew where she was all along? If they do, Ryodan's got even bigger issues than we knew about lmao.

For a long time I thought the things that irritated me about Mac were just the things that made Mac who she is, but after HV I really just think that's how KMM thinks "strong" women in their early 20s behave. Not everything has to be extensive repetitive monologues. I used to be annoyed by Mac and Dani for things that would irritate me real life (I get Mac, you're from the south. And yes Dani, I understand. You're Mega). While irritating, they were at least quirky and made them stand apart as their own characters. However, I agree with you guys that they're now a bland mix of "badass". Everyone takes themselves too damn seriously and I miss fun.

@Shookitha, yeah, what was that 50/50 crap anyway, pretty convenient if you ask me... I kept thinking why not make it 40/60 or 30/70 while you're at it, as the way it was resolved just felt so contrived. The whole Hunter thing was too OTT for me, both for Dani and Shazam. They were epic enough the way they were!!
@Carol, in the next book we'll probably get Mac rambling on about magnolias and her daddy, Dani rambling on about cleaning and shoes, and that Enyo chick rambling on about guns and war.
I keep forgetting this-- but does anyone remember Fallon (?) the other ss that dani remarks is like her in the way she moves and she thinks she will be able to teach her to move in the stratosphere or whatever dani nows calls it. I was thinking that Fallon will be the new dani. I almost think KMM was washing her hands of dani with this hunter thing and fallon will be the new 'dani'. i don't know but the introduction of this Fallon felt oddly placed in context--like guess who the new girl is????

@Carol you're so right these recent books really didn't have any of the fun the other ones used to have. Like Mac stabbing pillows while listening to music with her Machalo on or even any of Ryodan and Dani's amusing banter. I don't count Ryodan asking "top or bottom" among that category lol. I don't really know if this was the author's intention but amongst the gay community in particular that means something very different lol. I'm so glad someone else knows the skit I'm talking about! lmao I can't help but think of it every time I read about characters wearing leather pants ahahaa@June I liked Fallon in the book from what I remember. idk it did seem like Fallon was coming for Dani's speed demon crown. maybe it's difficult coming up with new powers idk, chameleon thing was like the nine's power and the speed thing was like Dani's. I think when you have all these people with epic powers things get to be less immediate, threats less serious because everyone's immortal or souped up with enough power they might as well be. So the villains have to get bigger and bigger to keep up. There are no real stakes because nearly none of the big characters die/stay dead. Except my poor geek boi :(
