High Voltage Spoiler Thread

Like that---wingy couple.
@ Miss Jones-- it wasn't that i was super interested only that it was slightly more interesting than Dani' storyline. Thats terrible to say but for me the truth, Dani was so blah in this.
But speaking of the Kat-Christian scene-- boy what an info dump and so not very detailed. It felt like KMM was just giving this timeline like with no thought into it. A couple of thousand years ago..blah blah...like she was trying to make sense of the timeline and the characters involved. It felt again try forced and not well thought out.
And to me it seemed like once more the Fae will be the big baddies. And thank goodness Mac will be there to save the day

And when Dani/Ryo moment happened in similarly fashion, my brain rejected it immediately, since I felt Ryo could/should have worked for a better/cooler wooing strategy than the things I could read about in a cheesy novel. However, that was my personal reason for hating it, and maybe I wouldn't so much if it wasn't for the unrelated Hutchins books xD .. idk tbh
@ June, omg, yes the Fae lore endless scene! At night I can put the audiobook there and sleep like a baby in no time! Why not put it in the glossary, I will always wonder...

The first time she went against Cruce, the Unseelie King came at the last moment to save her. And then in FS it was Dancer who figured out the song of making. So, maybe this is her big break???

I dont even go there, Denisa. Its eternal mindtrap if you start wishing for what could have happened instead of what did. Kmo would have written this story anyway, since this is how she envisioned it. I was hopping on board of the various scenes unfolding in the book and was just hoping they will leave me satisfied. But i just got blue balls from it in the end, coz no matter the storyline (which i can see how it could have been beautiful and all), in the end the actual writing was ruining everything for me.
Like even that dating scene could have been fine for me, as long as we weren't getting tacky playlists, but something less mainstream and more unique, transmitting the feel that the music choices were personalized based on the characters but not real-life preferences.
And also i d love not to have Dani complaining about losing her fav shoes... but she did. And so i cringe and complain xD

Q:
Does anyone else feel like it was an ending novel? What I mean is I loved the book, but when I got done it felt complete. I know theres more due to Fae wars, but for Dani, I got the sense of finished and now we could move on forward. I literally felt like I stepped clear of a wreckage for first time since starting the series (not saying KMM is wreckage, just a feeling of uplifting). Mac didn't make me feel that way, with her I always felt rushing forward into an endless sea always searching for the horizon yet never quite reaching it. She always to me seemed to always have another step, another facet. Dani is done for me. I guess the epilogue helped with that too. Haha
I do hope we see her in the other novels, but then again I hope I don't as I want her to always be roaming the universe with her beast and cat by her side.
Anyways, absolutely loved it. Confused as hell, but I've gotten used to KMMs works by now so I'm not upset about it. Thank you Karen Moning for yet another peak into your world. Thank you for sharing that wonderful imagination with us.
KMM:
I think the feeling of contentment is because I deliberately gave the book a proper beginning, middle and end, without a cliffhanger. I haven't done that in nine books. I knew some of you would love that while others might not. I knew it was very different from my past Fever books but I'd been talking for a couple of years about my desire to write one that way as I knew Dani's story was coming and would be told that way. It might help to know I think of the Fever series this way: Mac is the only primary character in it. She's the only one with a true 'inciting incident'. All the other characters are secondary. Occasionally I will move a secondary to front and center and feature them as a temporary primary but when I do they will always be 'episodic' storylines for that character, not progressive arcs spanning multiple books because they aren't the primary character with an inciting incident (Mac's sister dying and her desire to solve her murder was the inciting incident of the series.) Dani didn't have a true inciting incident. Her story was always unfolding either alongside Mac's or in episodic stand alone installments and, for that reason I think both Iced and HIVO feel slightly more 'complete.' When I take on a new series (assuming I do, LOL not committing to anything just yet) there will be a new primary with a new inciting incident. When I continue within this series (and I will) it will continue to follow the same pattern I've established. If all of this makes sense?
-----------------------------------
So this means I won't autobuy fever books anymore. I will wait for rewievs. I have no interest reading Mac's inner monologues about Georgia and her daddy lol
How can Mac have more story to tell than Dani LMAO
no, nope, can't do. I literally lost all my interest in future books.
Also I wrote this to KMM, bu she didn't say anything so far:
"I am a little dissapointed to read this actually. When we were all waiting for Burned, you told us that Mac and Dani will be main characters. And now the only main character is Mac. First five books of the series were amazing, I loved Mac so much but Iced blew me away. After Iced I couldn’t look at Mac the way I use to look. Honestly, I am not into reading Mac at all. So knowing that she is the only main character and my Dani is only a filler, made me lost my interest a little in future books.
I know this is your story and I feel really lucky to read this story you shared with us. Just wanted to post an another opinion from a Dani lover here. Sorry, if I offended anyone, I didn’t mean to."

Indeed meltem, i can totally understand you feeling disappointed. I remember that already after SF, Mac's story felt complete to me. It was nicely planned and executed. She ended up realizing having this darkness inside her, and it gave her some closure to understand finally who/what/why she was. She got to spend the rest of eternity keeping her inner "beast" on a leash, just like Barrons was doing with his. And she had Barrons at her side, and ultimately I could envision them growing more open with each other and learning from each other how to keep their darkness at bay. It was for granted. I had no need reading this already-hinted happy ending. SF end was fitting and not too sweet, which make it good quality of an ending. Nobody is without flaws and demons, right?
I didn't see why we needed to exorcise the book out of her and free her of her inner demons. It was too sugary of an endgame. And now she has new powers and bla. And probs they ll come with new demons and bla. But this is just repetitive..
So ultimately I'll never really understand why the promised Dani spin-off had to be broken and merged back into the already completed Mac story..
It's fun keeping the fantasy world active, but even Harry potter proved it to be a bad recipe to resurrect completed stories..

KMM:
Dani is never filler. Sometimes she's a temporary primary in episodic fashion. When I began the Fever series with Darkfever, Dani didn't exist. She sprang onto the page from nowhere as a secondary character with no inciting incident. I love that people love her as much as I do. She's definitely a polarizing character.
And now I said this (I'm keeping it real guys. Let's see where this will go):
that is good to know. Still, I don’t think that I will immediately grab the next book. I will wait for reviews instead. I’ll need to make sure that Dani is there enough before I get the book since you said Mac is the only main character now. I know I sound bitter but I am really sad now lost all my interest tbh.

LOL I wish they do. I am giving all the books 5 stars because I can't bring myself to give them anything less but I have TOOO MANY issues with them. And I live for drama lmao

I wish she never wrote Iced :(
I would be still happy with Mac that way. Since I've read Iced, Mac is just an annoyance for me.

LOOL i wish she never had burned/fb/fs xD i think even without ICED you can still see the decline of the storyline (when it came to Mac) after SF. But u know - some peeps still like it and etc. They will def be happy with anything kmo writes i believe. So its only a bummer for those who feel its time to let go of this series.

The thing that bothers me most is KMM herself. She doesn't want to write Dani?
That is ok.
She wants to write Mac?
That is ok too.
She just should say so! She wants to keep all of her readers. Instead, she's saying things like "Mac is ONLY main character" after that "Dani never is a filler" get a grip woman! Dani is not a main character either. What is she then, because HiVo sure as hell felt like a filler to me. If she wants to tell Mac's story, she should do it, it is her story. But she shouldn't try keep me on edge. She should let me go by saying this "I love writing Mac more than Dani, and will mainly do that" And I won't have any issues with that, I will stop reading the series and move on.
I know I am blabbering but it makes me really sad.

Q:

Dont worry i totally sympathise with your frustration. I've been feeling on the hook for far too many books tbh. Ever since Burned came out and suddenly everything we were told to expect for the coming story was negated in few sentences. We were gonna have a spin off and i understand it was tough on the hard core Mac fans to have Dani as lead.. but this is the risk of any spin off beginning. Kmo had a story planned for Dani we were told. And we spent 2 years getting ready for this story. Its how the expectations were set. And suddenly everything got chaotic and Mac came back, and there were expalantions of how appatently the storyline couldnt progress without her after all, and how we needed someone to tell us about Jada so that we can be thoroughly shocked that it was Dani and etc. And somehow in all those attempts to shock us and to make sure readers never see things coming - we ended up being told stuff which didnt hold true any more. And more stuff like that and etc.
And its like a roller coaster of chaos and misplaced emotional investments in different stories... ugh. It was literally like someone breaking up with you, be not really. And you still love them, so you hang around waiting for an improvement or smthng. But it never comes LOL
So im breaking up with you fever series! And Im not dramatic at all about it!

I literally LOL'ed at that gif :D
If it ain't me *sigh*
I wish she could stuck with her first plan. We could have Iced, Burned, Flayed trilogy about Dani, and after 2 more Mac books would be fine. We could've get a whole Dani story. And I would be happy to get back to Mac AFTER we got the story we promised about Dani is finished. But now I feel robbed.
And KMM is saying that Dani is "temporary primary in episodic fashion"
I am sorry but this is sound like a fancy explanation for the word FILLER
I know I am annoying for keep bringing this up but I just can't accept this LOL
People over FB saying that Mac has more story to tell. Pardon me, but B*tch, where?
Dani was in the mirrors!! we couldn't even saw those times. Mac has more story because KMM writes them. Dani doesn't have this privilege.

Exactly. I can't read from Mac's pov, and wait for to see Dani a little bit. KMM was always a autobuy writer to me, even though I didn't like the books after Iced. But Mac being the 'only' main character is a thing I won't spend my time and money on. I won't buy or read any of these books before I make sure there is enough Dani for me to tolerate Mac.

What a waste of a wonderful character. It makes sense now why KMM decided to close Dani's story the way she did with HV and why it was so abrupt and why it needed to have a happy ending And I so admire you for being blunt with KMM about not immediately buying her books lol
@ Anomis, I loved how you explained the state of Mac at the end of SF.
Mac was such a joy to read for me before Burned. Now I can't stand her and I don't believe in her growth. Both in FB and FS it felt very artificial. Even though I wanted her to move ahead and become a better version of herself, it didn't feel earned when it happened. Now with HV the same things happened with Dani. And maybe the books will continue in this vein. It's so disappointing. I feel like there is hardly anything to explore with Mac and longer. And Dani hardly got any time to explore her trauma and what she could be...I don't understand KMM at all any longer. I need a break from her. I'm going to do my best to ignore her until her other book comes out and just flip through it on a bookstore or something.
Also guys, if you electronically pre order a book on amazon you can still return the book within the first 7 days if you really hate it. So don't be afraid to preorder :)

"Dani's just as much of a protagonist as Mac in Burned", then Burned comes out and Dani/Jada has like three scenes. "Feversong is the end of the series, a goodbye to Mac and Barrons" then High Voltage is listed as Fever #11 and then we get told this series is and always will be about Mac first and foremost. like ok, do what you want to do with your series that's great I hope you have success with it. but don't string Dani fans along when it was never your intention to give her a full fleshed out arc anyway. That's just rude and a waste of fan's time and money. Dani's the superhero and she didn't even get to save the world instead she's just chillin in space half of her time, committing to her beloved Dublin only half way. That's just hurtful lmao. Dani's destiny was never to save the world but to end up as Ryodan's epic lady love. Some people loved that. But I just wanted more for her is all.
Good for you Meltem for bringing it up and saying how you feel, you're clearly not alone. You've got balls as big as the Mega and I love it lmao

LMAO melissa, thank you!
And your first paragraph, just...

Jade,
You are so right! Why can't Dani even have her own tastes. OMG, I hate this.
Dani can't have anything, even her time to shine was rushed and forced. I don't even like that she becomes a hunter, like whyyyy? she was already mega, she didn't need to turn into a dragon :/

Dani became just a really unimaginative character at the end.

Ugh! This is so painfully to the point.... it's unbelievable considering how she started off!
Sometimes i'm thinking how come kmo could even write ICED, seeing what followed?? Like maybe she was on lsd or something LOL! It was so colorful and electric and thrilling and fast! I could go eat shrooms with her if that's what it takes to get another book like that lmao!
It was spontaneous and probably its why it was so so good. The rest just feels over-planned and over-flown with info and half-stories and half-characters and etc, just so that the storyline is kept a secret and everyone gets to be shocked when the time comes for the reveal. It worked great with V'lane, i thought. But I haven't been shocked by any of the twists ever since. I have been shocked by the weird storyline telling and character mutilations, but that's another thing...

I feel cheated as well. I'm angry with this New info on KMM: Mac is the only primary? Lol lol since when? You renamed the books to separate Dani from Fever; then you changed your mind and put "Fever" back in It and took Dani out of the stage.
To think I actually believed, back in Iced, when KMM Said that she follows her "Muse" and doesn't let marketing and fan opinions change her plans. Yeah, right.

Honestly, returning to Mac for financial reasons makes sense. I was anticipating the shift going back to Mac if this book underperforms blaming it on there simply being no audience for Dani. After her whole "support the characters you like to see with your money" thing she talked about last year. But it's not like her team even promoted High Voltage at all- so many people still don't know it's out. But like I can't hate. get money! it won't be mine anymore but who doesn't like money? Slay capitalist queen!!
At least Mac fans can be happy lol wherever they are.

hahaha i feel like most of the hardcore mac/barrons fans got scared off at book 6/7 and now most of the dani/ryo fan have got scared off cause of HV. Who is even left at this point are fans of kmm herself thats who not even necessarily fans of her books lmao.

Does anyone else feel like us here at the GR board had a much more ambitious vision for Dani than KMM ever did? Even if Iced was a freak accident, how could she not recognise what a brilliant character she had on her hands? As much as I liked books 1-5, after Iced, Mac just didn't exist anymore, it was all about Dani. If I was a writer, I would have been all over that. I guess Mac is the breadwinner, and always will be, but that doesn't sound like fearless wiriting to me.

Lmao misery does love company xD Or rather *needs company..
I think GR board is not that full of Kmo fans, but rather Kmo readers... and that makes all the difference to us, since there is no way you can like something just because someone specific wrote it. I guess readers are looking for certain things in books and if they are missing - the books are no good for them, plain and simple.
I used to be a "fan" or whatever you can call it, because i kept telling myself to believe in kmo's muse and that she'll eventually go back to what i liked in her writing. But ok, nvm now!
Tbh, i'd rather have her write Mac's story and not go back to Dani, since then I won't have to witness the butchery of her character over again.

Guys Kmo doesn't seem like the type that goes for drugs. I think she was not as involved with her fans and that allowed her to write what she wanted to write and that's what made Iced so great. I find it really unhealthy how much she drops in to explain her writing and justify her intentions to her fans.
I think because of that she no longer has to rely on doing such a good job in the stories she writes, because she can come on the FB group and say, "Oh you were disappointed with that scene? Well this is what was happening." Or, "You didn't get my message, well let me tell you about it in this comment." Never mind that that's what the book was for. Why show when you can tell people after the book has been released :/
I've personally had enough of hearing from her and her telling fans how to read her books.

SHOOKITHA JONES, I feel like taking KMO to court and fighting her for custody of Dani. Poor Dani got screwed over both by her book mother and her writer mother lol
She will always be 14 and somewhere kicking Mac's ass in my mind, not following her orders like she was in HV.

OMG YES DENISA U R A RELEVATION! UR SO RIGHT LMAO
She literally tries to tell her fans how to read her books after the fact! Homegirl that's what ur book is for!

You bring up a great point, what's the point of writing things in the book when you can just explain them away on facebook afterwards. and lmao the character defamation and assassination feels so real. Take ha to faery court Denisa!!! lmao
Dani's still bodacious, brilliant and uncontainable in my head too. Not in a childish way but a strong ass female with saucy~ humor and independence, strong in her convictions. In my mind if she wanted Ryodan she'd pursue his ass til she got him, and be secure enough in herself to do it. I don't see her being all flustered and bashful like she was in HV

HAHA! It's Denisa, but thanks :D
And also, I read your review of HV and I notice your #notmyryodan comment. Literally the hashtag of my year for 2018. I know I will not get over this until next summer, if I ever do.

I think my iced loving soul will forever be in mourning for what could have been if kmm had the conviction to keep fearlessly writing instead of getting cowed by her fangirls. oh well, i guess the OG dani and ryodan will just have to live on in our heads and hearts lol.

LOL dont worry, kmo won't have to explain anything soon, since there will be fans that can explain you even better than kmo her books and why she makes the writing choices she does. "Fansplaining" is a very serious job!

I mean its nice to take your "real" job seriously, i get it... but:

..Mrs Jones is wise as ever tho! We all need to pass a doobie around and chill xD Its been 10 crazy days of fandom wars lmao!

Noooo! Dani Ryo Front is sinking, you guys! Abort abort!

OMG the Jen girl!!!! I love her! I was cracking up at all her comments! I almost lost my mind on the one where she said something like, "Maybe you don't understand character development because you aren't a write. But I'm a writer, so I know everything!" I almost died!
And yes, the fansplaining struggle is real!! Like Jade I was eye rolling so hard at the "Of course, makes sense to me. Mac is the real primary" comments. Like there are actual people there that when they say they would pay 14.99 for a napkin if KMO wrote on it, they really do mean it!
Ugh! Where is that doobie? I really need it right now.

Love & Light,
Shookitha Jones

I saw one girl told her to ger over herself once she went on her rant about how she's a wannabe writer so we should all trust her to know more than us illilterate fools lmao.
Like girl get a grip literally everyone thinks you're a fool!

OMG LOOOL
Gurl that's the best most realistic impression i've seen of her lmaoooo.
it's not even exaggerated like that's literally her!

um u seem to be under the impression that I'm joking, well I'm not. Get ur nose back in the book and come back once you've had the revelation that I've and any anyone else with a higher understanding of literature has had. That advice was good and u should take it seriously tbh.

As for Rae, I found her more interesting than her Mama. When she said her back was itchy and Kat saw the raised bumps, I thought ruh roh. Is she growing wings? That’ll be interesting if written correctly.
