So this kid is working at a lost and found at a subway station, and he finds a diary written by a sociopath. When he takes the book to the cops, they think that he wrote it to mess with them. (view spoiler)[A few years ago, the kid watched a little girl drown and he couldn’t do anything, (hide spoiler)] so now he goes out to try to protect the people the sociopath wrote about hurting in his diary. (view spoiler)[ In the end, the kid figures out where the guy lives and ultimately stops the guy. The kid and his friend got busted for stealing toilets and had to take summer jobs as community service. (hide spoiler)]

I think I read it a year and a half, maybe two years ago? It took place in Canada.. Quebec, I think.
