Alexis (amspivak) | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is Alexis -- I was a really big reader in elementary school and the beginning of middle school, but then harder courses got in the way and we had to read longer books for school, so my pleasurable reading fell by the wayside. After graduating from undergrad and graduate school, I wanted to get back in the habit of reading.

I don't currently have a favorite genre of books. I've found that I most enjoy memoirs and mysteries, but I'll read just about anything!

This year my goal is to read 52 books! I joined Goodreads at the tail end of 2016 and started with the goal of reading 14 books in 2017. I surpassed that goal rather quickly and read 40 books last year. So far I've read 17 books, so I am on my way to reaching my goal again!

Elisa | 1 comments Hello all,
I’m Elisa from the Seattle area. I love reading but I’m not great at finding time to do so so I’m shooting for a goal of 10 books this year. I wanted to join this group because as I scrolled through the group’s bookshelf, I found that I was interested in reading all the past books you have read in this group and I would like to read along with you in the future. I love your book-a-month format. Excited to join the group.
Happy reading!

Chela Koech (laurakoech) Hello, I'm Alec from Indiana and I enjoy reading YA fantasy and sci-fi and conteporaries. Though every now and then I like to read middle grade because of how lighthearted they can be. I found this group by scrolling around Goodreads browsing the different things I can do on this website. My goal is to read at least 17 books before summer.

Santiago Peña | 7 comments Hi!
My name is Santiago, i'm from Bogota, I'm looking for some motivation to read, and I think a good way is to talk with someone else about what we like of reading and what kind of books we prefer and why.
I really enjoy genres such as historic novels, science fiction and magic realism and I'm currently following authors like Murakami or Liu Cixin, but I'm open to discover new authors and new genres.
Nice to meet you all!

message 110: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alycat_) Hey everyone, I'm Aly from Sydney and finally getting back into reading after a few years of life getting in the way. I finished a couple of degrees and didn't read much during them, too overwhelmed by uni readings!

I'm aiming for forty books this year but thinking I might go a bit over that! I always have an ebook in my bag for my commute and a physical book for bedtime reading. My favourite genres are contemporary fiction, science/speculative fiction, dystopia and crime-thriller. Funnily enough though the best book I've read this year so far was For Whom The Bell Tolls - one of those books you picked up first in high school and finished 10 years later.

Khairuddin Ayubzai | 1 comments Hi all my reading-fantastic friends,
I am from Sheberghan, Afghanistan and not to mention I love reading and writing.
Everyone who reads is special for me so I am glad I have found thousands here. I love to read classics (I am not sure when I shall be able to find time for contemporary), I also like biographies and self-described lives such as Dreams from my Father (Obama) or Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave.

My goal is 50 this year but I am sure I might extend it to many more because that's what I came here for!
Thanks to those who help us inspire.

Rebecca Bowen | 50 comments Hi, my name is Rebecca and I’m 18 in August, I’m half welsh and half Italian so I read in both languages :) I love in Italy at the moment.
I love reading and am always looking for different books to tackler, despite it being hard, as I have a lot to study and it takes a lot of time to get into a routine.
My goal this year is to read at least 30 books, but I would be more than happy to reach 50.
I have a YouTube channel which I use to experiment filming techniques despite only having my phone camera. My dream is to go to a film school in either Rome or Milan but I don’t think we can afford it.
I hope to read as much as possibile and I hope to reach my goal! Nice to meet you all!

Sarah ♥ (sarahscosycorner) (sarahreadss) | 2 comments Hi everyone!

I have started book blogging and my cat Isla has become my book buddy!

message 129: by Marina (new)

Marina (themarinabox) | 37 comments Hi everyone! I'm Marina and I'm from Singapore but living in Netherlands.

In the past few years, my taste in books have changed and since then I'm more drawn to Thrillers (especially : Psychological Thrillers), Mystery (and/or Detective books) and I do enjoy the occasional non-fiction or books from other genre if i find the premise of the book interesting.

I was hoping to find a buddy to read a book with and when I was searching for places to find a buddy, I found this group.

My reading goal on Goodreads was set to 12. Lol. This is because last year, I had a crazy year! I moved 3 times and in 2 different countries. It was a chaotic year and I didn't have time / motivation to read. When I set the goal, I was still in my reading slump but I'm well settled down and got back to reading and I wish I could change the goal number.

So, I guess my goal is to read as much as I can this year. Hopefully, I could read around 30-50 books.

message 130: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12956 comments Hi Marina welcome to the group we are so very happy to have you join us. What you call chaotic just sounds like a crazy adventure to me. I love love Thrillers myself so we will have to compare books for sure. We have so much to do here including Buddy Reads. I will leave the link down here for you. We also have challenges, group reads and lots of other fun things. If you want to change your goal to have it reflect 30 or even 50 that is doable. Click on where it says 2 of 12 books completed and then click on the challenge banner at the top. Then just click edit and change the number to 30. if you need more help please ask.

Buddy Reads.

message 131: by Miriam (new)

Miriam Hello all, I'm Miriam from Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). I've had an odd couple of years, so read a bit less, but usually I read ~50 books a year. I'm looking to up that number this year. I'm a member of an online book forum/group as well as a RL bookgroup. Both for the almost 20 years.

I found this group via the TBR jar challenge -- my randomized TBR 2018 list is https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... -- but I see it as more of a guide than a mandate.

I read a range, but mostly focus on current literary fiction (i.e. written in the last 20 or so years) with a smattering of classics, non-fiction, science fiction, horror (light), and mysteries. I gorged on fantasy and romance in my tweens and early twenties, so can't really read them anymore, but there are always exceptions!

Thank you!!! I feel so silly that I didn't know I could do that and I've been on Goodreads for years lol. Thanks for telling me and I'm going to give it a try when I post this reply. I will look through the Buddy Reads forum as well.

Christina Hi everyone, I'm Christina! I'm 22, and I'm studying for a masters degree in Scotland at the moment. I used to read for pleasure so much before I started my first degree in 2014, but since then uni stuff has taken over my life, so I made a new year's resolution to read more fiction in 2018! I enjoy reading modern classics, literary fiction and the occasion crime/mystery novel.

I set myself a target to read 100 books this year! I'm a little behind schedule at the moment, but hopefully I'll be able to catch up once classes are over. I'm looking forward to getting to know other book lovers and achieving my goals this year!

Helle (helleb) Hi all,
I'm Helle from Eindhoven (that's in the Netherlands) and I've been on Goodreads since 2011. My reading challenge has been a steady 65 books each year, which is not always easy, but usually feasible. This generally includes 10 Agatha Christie novels, ever since I found a box full of them some time ago, and am now reading them in order of publication. My other favorite books are mysteries, fantasy (and a little Sci-Fi) and thrillers, but I'll read pretty much anything if it comes recommended.
I'm looking forward to exploring this group a bit more.

message 138: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey everyone!
I'm Lea and I'm living and Germany. I usually read a lot of YA, fantasy and contemporary and I'm trying to get myself into reading a bit more poetry this year.
My reading goal is to read 10 books this year, 2-5 of them in english. Although I managed to read about 23 books last year I didn't want to pressure myself into reading more than I'm comfortable doing while keeping up with my studies.
I found this group when I was browsing through the suggested one's and thought it would be great to have some company when reaching my goals for this year.

Zachary (inwordstruth) | 1 comments Hi everybody,

My name is Zach, and I am a life long reader new to Goodreads world, and an English major about to graduate. I'm from Kentucky but currently living in Italy. I will read just about anything, but I gravitate towards literature, history, memoirs, YA, anything with a very human element. I enjoy books that give a new perspective on how we as humans operate. My go to was thrift stores for random book gems, and now that I'm a Kindle user I use the daily deals e-mails to find the gems. My goal for this year is 70 books.

I am always down for a good bookie conversation, and new friends.

All the best and happy reading,

Dean Hi,

My Name is Dean, I've been a Goodreads member for around 5 years but I've never used it for any extended period of time. I've finally found some spare time to read after completing my Bachelor's in Economics and I feel like I can now dedicate a good period of time towards reading this year.

I love crime, biographical and mystery novels, sometimes venturing into fantasy and sci-fi depending on my mood. My favourite books so far are "I Am Pilgrim", "Wiseguy" and "Shoe Dog".

My goal for this year is to read 30 books, about 25 more than my previous best :') .

Best of luck to everyone else for your reading challenge!
