But my memory of the lost corner tells me, and the memory of Ruth coincides with mine, that at first we believed in it literally, that in the same way that the trucks arrived at Hailsham with the food and the objects for the Balances, a single operation took place, on a much larger scale, across the length and breadth of England, and all the things that were lost in the fields and trains of the country went to that place called Norfolk. And the fact that we had never seen any photograph of that place alone, contributed to increase its aura of mystery.
Even at that time I realized that it could not be like that, that such an interpretation did not match the rest of the lyrics. But I did not care. The song was about what I was saying, and I listened to it again and again, alone, whenever I could.
We took your artistic works, because we thought they would allow us to see your soul. Or, to put it in a more subtle way, to show that you had a soul.
The moon was not yet full, but it illuminated enough to allow me to see Tommy's figure. He screamed and threw punches and kicks, made a fury, a few meters away, where the field began to descend sharply.
