ABANDONED. Siblings in a typing competition

This is a book that I heard on tape when i was younger, so I only remember one major plot point. What I remember is that there is a group of siblings who are living without their parents (for some reason, I don't know specifically) and at one point one of the sisters joins a typing competition. She would have won but a boy in the competition cheated by switching the screens and purposefully making mistakes. The younger sister switches back the screens to show that the guy was cheating. I remember that the siblings had either a pet cat or dog, but that is really all I have. I hope somebody knows what this is!
