Has anyone in the group ever visited Monk's House? I plan to in June and I have a rather odd question about it.

What is your question? (I hope it really is odd.)
It's about the privy in the garden, as it says on the web site. Apparently there's no indoor toilet for visitors to use. I live in the U.S. and an outdoor privy here brings to mind outhouses with crescent moons carved on the door.
I tend to use the bathroom a lot (diabetic) so I'm wondering how primitive is said privy?
I'm off to check out your photos!
Oh, I can't wait to hear the answer to this one. Sarah, it is lucky you have blazed the trail...The privy can't be any worse than those Port-a-Johns they put at music festivals...probably a lot more aesthetically pleasing. Maybe with beautiful paintings inside the door?

As to the photos, it seems a bunch of them have gone missing. Flickr is notorious for disappearing photos. Sigh.

I emailed Monk's House and they very nicely sent me three photos of the privy. It has a sink and flush toilet. All mod cons! It's a little brick structure.
They also mentioned it's not the one Leonard and Virginia used when they lived there.

No such luck on the paintings. It's pretty plain inside. See my reply to Sarah.

The Tourist Info Centre sent me a brochure with a title s/thing like "Out and About in Sussex w/o a Car". I'm going to be taking the bus to Charleston, then probably to Berwick Church, as I don't think I can walk 3 miles. I'm not really in condition!
I found out there are no buses on Sunday, and since I'll only be there Fri-Wed., in order to see Monk's House I'll need to take a taxi.
Last year I took a taxi to Charleston and I can recommend the driver/service if anyone wants to know.
A taxi driver would probably tell you lots of interesting stuff. Short of sitting in a pub, it's probably the best source!

Driving in Britain looks terrifying with the multi-lane roundabouts and curvy narrow country lanes that lorries whip down.
