SOLVED. Children or YA Fantasy about an Outcast Girl and Talking Cat. [s]

Hello All,

I remember reading a book a few years ago, probably somewhere between 2011-2014. In it, the main character, a girl in her early teens, was the village outcast. I know her dad had died before the beginning of the book, and I think he was a woodworker or carpenter or some kind of craftsman. The girl had a cat (white I think) who lived with her and loved her very much. At the beginning of the book, a strange wizard/magician comes to town and starts bad happenings.

Somehow through magic, the cat begins to talk. The girl ends up traveling with the strange magician guy on a boat towards an ancient city.

I think the book was written for children (10-14yrs), but it was pretty dark so maybe it was for teenagers. The cover of the book is a silhouette of the girl and the cat (standing on a roof I think). It was mostly browns and blues.
Towards the end of the novel, the girl has to face a strange monster/vampire/witch person.
