Cathy (boxershiner) In this work of fiction, a boy ran away from home because he had a disagreement with his father after he complained about being hungry. Unknown to him, was that his little brother trailed behind and he wasn't happy about having someone else to care for. His brother is eventually killed or dies. What I specifically remember, is that boy gets hired by someone to do some work and gets paid a good bit. I don't remember if he gets a $100 dollar bill or if someone needs change for the $100 bill and he buys it, but when he uses it to pay for something, the seller tells him he must have stole that $100 bill and takes it away from him without compensating him for it, so he's penniless again. I'll assume this story took place in Ireland? but, I don't remember anything particularly Irish about it other than the potatoes. It's possible that he's able to escape Ireland and goes to another country. Possibly I remember him jumping onto empty train cars to get from one place to another, but that may be a different story I'm confused with

Cathy, please add genre and plot details to your header. This could help your query get solved faster. You need your thread to stand out from all the other thousands of threads.

Was it children's, YA, or adult?
Remember the cover?
Author female or male?

Cathy (boxershiner) I don't know any of those things. I did add my age to the topic. I think the book would have been too long to be a children's book, but could have been YA or adult. Topic or a spark of interest is always more important to me than the age a book was written for. I've read many children's book in adulthood, if the subject is one of my interests, just to see what it's telling children and if it's correct. I also read books I buy for my small nieces and nephews. I wrote all I can remember or guess in my message.
