SOLVED. A Book Maybe Called "Heads" sci-fi [s]

Okay so my pops was in the Navy in the mid to late 1980's and he talks about this book all the time. He says it is called Heads and I am assuming it is science fiction.

I remember him saying this is was about a scientist or doctor who save people from car accidents and other thing similar things and then proceeds to put their head on machine to make them talk/live. That is all I remember I assume it was publish either in the 60's or 70's.

If you can help me find this book that would be great it has been driving me batty for years!

Greg Bear wrote a book called "Heads" Heads but this was from 1990s.
