I just finished - what a ride!! I'm so glad I finally picked up this book after leaving it sitting on my shelf for ages. :-)

I wasn't all too surprised by that to be honest (view spoiler)[not because Wade mentioned that he had a crush on Art3mis simply by reading her blog but because if you spend as much time inside a game and with the same people as they do, you grow pretty close to people. It's basically like spending every free minute with people in real life, just ... not... really real. Though to the people in the game it seems real because they are actually talking and interacting with these people. You start feeling close to people you talk to all the time, virtual or real. It's an inevitable human reaction in the end. (hide spoiler)]

I'm glad I read it too. It has been on my Kindle for a couple of years!

I finished too. Even thought I knew what was going to happen, I still got completely hooked and could not put it down.

Sorrento is such a great antagonist. His presence is making the fight not just against a company but adding a personal level too.

I know I'm way behind in reading this. I tried, but it was a dense start and I wasn't in the mood at the time. I've finally finished level 1 and it is starting to pick up now. I'm actually looking forward to continuing to read the story.

(view spoiler)[I'm really liking the added action now that the first gate has been cleared. It was very slow before that happened. I'm a bit shocked and not shocked by IOI blowing up the trailer where Wade sort of lives. That was just horrible, and there won't be any repercussions for them either. Now that Wade has moved and is really committing to the OASIS and finding the egg it feels like a more interesting story. Also, the bus trip gave me more of a feel for the "outside" world and why the OASIS is so important. (hide spoiler)]

It really did pick up in Level 2 and now I'm invested in the story and really enjoying it. I think I just wasn't in the right book mood and now I am.

I found a lot of it amusing, Wade and his new routine post Art3mis, his experience with virtually sex, and the pac man play through. I'm still wondering what that quarter does. I feel really bad for Shito loosing his best friend and virtual brother. The Sixers take things a little to far. I'm curious to see how this ends. (hide spoiler)]

Mmmh, I agree that this seems to be a book you have to be in the right mood for otherwise the experience won't be the same.

So I finally finished. I'm way behind everyone else I know. I really liked the prologue for this book but then Level 1 was so slow. I had a hard time getting though it and wondered if it would be worth continuing. However, everyone else seemed to like the book so I continued. Then Level 2 was faster paced. I think if the book hadn't sped up I would have given up. Level 3 was the easiest for me to read. I think this was because there were less pop culture references. Unfortunately, those just slowed the book down for me. I can see how they added to the story and would be great for someone who loves the 80's. However, for me it didn't work quite so well. I've never been into pop culture, doesn't matter what decade.

Thoughts on Level 3 (view spoiler)[I liked that our three main characters get to meet at the end of the novel. It really added something to the story. I also liked that the ending really came down to human connection. The fight at the end wasn't exciting but I didn't really feel invested in the outcome, I pretty much knew the destroy everything artifact was going to be used. I'm glad that the coin came into play at the end of the story as well. It was a nice touch. (hide spoiler)]

What does everyone think about there being a sequel? I'm not really sure I needed a sequel.

Eh, I'm not really sure about that sequel either. This read like a well-done stand-alone.

Sure, there is a lot of potential to create more stories in the setting and what with the Oasis having unlimited possibilities, but... meh. I'm really not sure. Then again, I guess it depends on what it is Cline wants to write in that sequel. Maybe Sorrento wants to get his revenge?

I was a bit disappointed when I heard about that sequel but I will probably read it just to see. Wont have high hopes though.

I don't think a sequel is needed as it wrapped up pretty nicely. If there is indeed a sequel, I don't think I'll be reading it.

Okay I'm just starting (although this is a re-read for me). I really enjoyed the first read through so I am listening to the audible version this time narrated by Wil Wheaton.

I loved when he was listing all the stuff he watched/listened to just like the inventor of The Oasis (Star Trek was included and it made me laugh).

He thinks he just found the copper key (or is very close to finding it).
