I'm on page 130/368 of Nineteen Eighty-Four
Although I first read this in 1984, it's amazing how much I've forgotten about Winston's life in the dystopian past.
How is..."
Hello Jazzy,
Sorry for the late update, I'm usually busy during the week and also was waiting to finish the book before commenting on it :p
I gave it 4 starts, just like you. It made me laugh a lot, probably many people in the bus were thinking I was crazy haha. At some point I had to stop because otherwise I would start laughing really hard. This is why I gave it 4 stars, however it's more like 3.5 as I don't think the book has provided me with anything more than laughs...
What were your thoughts on 1984? That's one of my favourites so choose your words carefully haha :)

I've read it a few times before - in 1984, actually :D
I had started reading it very slowly because I wanted to see how you were and how you liked your book. I can't remember the last time I read Tom Sawyer, although I read Huckleberry Finn about 10 years ago, so you might like to read that one soon.
Nineteen Eighty-Four is a shocking awakening of what the government has become. Maybe Orwell couldn't foresee the internet and digital media, but a lot of his predictions have been spot on, but as he was writing from the times, Orwell never suspected the enemy could turn out to be capitalism itself.
Many people have commented on the book when I was reading it in public, and it is a very popular book and a great conversation starter. I have a friend named Ross and it's his most favourite book EVER. He collects all the ones with different covers.
PS. Have finished the book last week and given it 5 stars, so I gave it away to a friend to read for the first time.

Steph gave it 5 stars, I gave it 4 stars.

I am happy you liked your choice. :)

You both are inspiring me to read this book again. I read it so long ago... With the current US government / buzz in the media with comparisons and referencing back to the book's themes, I think it's a perfect time for a re-read.
Pulling the book off my shelf now...

I sent you a message -- I'm happy to be your partner for the remainder of this month. You've already read a book, so don't have to read another, but if you'd like to, I do have quite a good number of books I've read (and loved) that are on your to-read shelf :) And you don't have to finish by March 30, as the thread does stay active.
I will choose 'A Wrinkle in Time' - I was happy to see it on your shelf, as I have the book here, and have been wanting to read it for ages, and now the movie is out too... so this is the PERFECT MOTIVATION for me! YAY!
