A good start. A witty main character that does not follow the "I'm gorgeous but I don't realize it" trope :)
It was so obvious the nervous guy was the author. That line about becoming a love slave in exchange of ARCs though -> me with Sanderson (well, if he weren't married...)

So I got to binge listen to this during my long drive today. It's such a light, fun read. I'm about 75% in. I'm pretty sure the (view spoiler)[ nephilim is Seth. After the letters appeared it became pretty obvious with the fact that he hasn't given her back her book. Once she sees his handwriting she's going to figure it out. (hide spoiler)]

Ok. The humidity in the fridge all muddled my notes. I can't read anything. Here's what I remember (spoilers up to 70%): (view spoiler)[

So, the two obvious suspects for the nephilim are Seth and Roman. There's enough material to think it could be either of them at this point. Both are obsessed with Georgina as well.

Seth arrived in town the very night it all started (when that vampire whose name I can't recall was killed). He won't give her back her signed book (hiding his handwriting?). There's been several mentions of a 'spark' when Georgina touched him. I'm wondering if it's a "I absolutely love this author and he's probably my soulmate" spark or a "This guy is secretly an immortal and it shows when we have contact" spark... 🤔
But we saw his family so he can't be the nephilim, right?

Roman is... well... Hot, has stalker tendencies, is very knowledgeable in ancient langages and dances perfectly (both qualities that Georgina shares and explains with her immortality). Georgina mentioned his beautiful handwriting more than once. Also, his name's Smith. I mean, do people really have that name?

I didn't pay attention to their schedule but both could have done it. Seth is being shady, saying he has to "meet someone" but Roman has been occupied when all the attacks took place. I'm still leaning toward Roman being the nephilim 'cause... Well, I'm Team Seth. I like that socially awkward but brilliant writer. I don't want him to be a creepy, voyeury immortal stalker with violent tendencies :o

Your notes are exactly the same thoughts I had while reading it. Each one lol. I too am team Seth cuz I love nerdy book lovers. And as an introvert, extroverts intimidate me and extroverts are quiet and chill enough not to scare me away.

(Open after big reveal, 80-85% mark I think) (view spoiler)[ Which is why I thought it would be cool if it were Seth and Roman was just a red herring thrown in to confuse the reader. Misdirection. But I do like how I like both of them. Usually in a love triangle (which I tend to hate) there's an obvious choice and an asshole. And while you can say Roman is kind of an asshole in the end, I found both of them to be pretty likable. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder what you guys will think of book 2-3... I rated this one 5 stars as well, I think... but it lost a star per book, and I dropped after book 3...

I'm finding this a trend in books I've been reading. Esp light PNR books. But so far the series had a good start for me. I'm interested.

Yeah, I hoped I would be proven wrong too. Roman became the obvious choice at some point. Did not see the 'twin' twist coming, although I immediately guessed it was Helena once it came out. I mean, there's not a lot of female characters anyway :o

Boy, Roman became creepy at the end. I understand where he's coming from (well, I can imagine... I'm not immortal after all ;) ) but that possessiveness and the 'you and I are the same' speech... *shivers*

I liked both Seth and Roman but, as a fellow 'nerdy book lover', I can't help but support Seth.

When Georgina fed on him and experienced his feelings... I want a Seth too! :'(
Really though, the awe and admiration Seth felt when he met Georgina... That's pretty much how I feel when I encounter very social people. As an hardcore introvert, I always wonder how those people manage to say something witty/funny on the spot. I only babble. Not fair :p

Btw, did Georgina take years off Seth's life? She came pretty close to killing him so I imagine she really took a lot... Everyone was acting all cool since he didn't end up dead but... That's a possibility, right?

(view spoiler)[ Yeah, once they said twin sister I knew who it was. And I agree that the Roman thing was too obvious, but I didn't see the twin thing. I figured there was more to it though. Like when Carter disappeared from her apartment and Roman showed up I kind of wondered how he did it. I just thought that if it were him maybe he's just more powerful than they thought.

I think she did take years off of his life. I hope it was the later years where he would have been sick and bedridden anyway ;-) (hide spoiler)]

I guess it's a good thing I pre-fill that spreadsheet with what I plan to read haha. I would have gotten lost in my TBR otherwise ;)

When do you want to read it? It's very short so we could do it anytime I guess.

I really like this book so far it's light and fun and it makes all kinds of sense, which is nice. Also, I may be getting slight Aziraphale-Crowley (Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch) vibes from Jerome and Carter.

Also Georgina is such a fangirl and hyperventilates at the thought of a new book in the series being written. I can relate.

I've only met Sanderson I think. Or at least he was the only one I went nutso over. The first time was checking into my hotel and he was checking in behind me. Boy did I embarrass myself. You would have thought I was a 14 year old meeting Backstreet Boys. I cringe thinking about it.

For me that's problematic. If it takes me too long to read something, or I spend too long away from a book, because I have so many other books going on, I start forgetting. I'm trying to not read too many at a time and not to take long breaks away from books now.

I was only reading one book at a time before I joined this group in January. Well, 2 with the audiobook.
Now, I usually have 5 going at once... And some mangas. I don't really forget even if it takes me a long time to read. Not to brag, but I've got a good memory (and I sometimes wish I didn't. I very rarely re-read anything because it's too fresh in my memory) but I do loose interest after a time.

That's what's happened with Crooked Kingdom. It's not a bad book but... I didn't care enough about the characters to read this book instead of another :o I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have picked it if it weren't for the BR.
