Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1971 comments Hey, in chapter 1, when Manfred mentioned (view spoiler)

I'm still at 40%. gosh, I am liking the TV series more and more. Spoilers for those who have not finished the book entirely and does not mind having mild spoiler from the TV series(view spoiler). Hopefully in the second half the book picks up the pace.

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments Yes it is (view spoiler)

message 54: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1971 comments Ok that was just bad. one and a half star since I did not hate it but it was not okay, more to the meh territory.

Maybe the TV series is a better adaptation because it combines stories from later books? there were much more going on in it including (view spoiler)

sorry about the pick, gals, seriously thought it would be better than the adaptation. I guess this one is a rare case.

Virginie | 6109 comments It's a DNF for me, around 25%. I'm falling asleep with the audiobook! I though I was just really tired at first but after my fifth unsuccessful attempt, I had to admit the truth: I find it incredibly boring!

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments I finished! I'm amazed but I finished. Still giving it 1 star.

message 57: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments So, I'm going to assume we're not continuing with the series :p

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Virginie wrote: "So, I'm going to assume we're not continuing with the series :p"

That's an incredibly safe assumption lol. What are we tackling next? Sticking with PNR?

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Kresley Cole, PC Cast, Cassandra Palmer, Kate Douglas. Some authors in my tbr list that I haven't read yet.

Oh! I really want to read the Succubus series. Succubus Blues

message 60: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments That Succubus series sounds interesting!

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Virginie wrote: "That Succubus series sounds interesting!"

Let's set it up! End of March?

message 62: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Fine by me. I have no BR scheduled this month after the 15th ;)

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Just took a look and my March is crazy. Let me see if I can drop something. Please stand by :-)

message 64: by Virginie (last edited Mar 06, 2018 09:24AM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments I looked. I'm scared... Just tell me when you have some time and we'll start. I can get the ebook from the library anytime :D

My April and May are ridiculously overbooked. Here's my tracker.

EDIT: failed to link the tracker the first time --"

Virginie | 6109 comments The cover of book 1 is hideous!
Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead

She's scary-looking. Isn't she supposed to be super sexy? :o

Lol, cover art fail. Let's do end of March. I'll make it work. I've been really not enjoying a lot of my buddy reads. I'm probably going to drop a bunch. Keep only the ones I REALLY want to do. This one has been on my tbr list for probably over 5 years. Let's say March 21st?

message 67: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments March 21st it is! :D

I'm dropping more books these days than I used to. I blame the BR bonus points. I'm just starting tons of BRs and end up DNFing a quarter of those.

Same. I still finish them, cuz I absolutely hate not finishing a book, no matter how bad, but if it wasn't for the buddy read points, I'd be reading a lot more stuff that I actually want to read.

Omg!! I'm not saying you'll love these, but they're among my personal favorites. I love them so hard. One of my book boyfriends (MINE!!!!).

Uh... 5 stars, 4 stars, 3 stars, dropped the series and never read books 4-6...

SORRY NIKI :D

lol it's not one of those I can recommend with confidence, you know? But it's still MINE! My precious (okay, I know I'm verging on creepy now. Self awareness is important). XD

For what it's worth, the full arc of the series (realized in book 6) is part of its high appeal with me.

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments I've heard good things about this series. I've been wanting to read it forever. I at least have faith that it's going to start out great :-)

I didn't like what happened in books 2-3 (view spoiler)

When I quit I read the blurbs for later books, I think, and saw something about (view spoiler)

I can't force myself to read something I don't like anymore. I just end up in a slump 'cause I'm dreading going back to the book.

I don't tend to read things I actively hate, but I have been continuing series I would otherwise let rot in my TBR out of disinterest/apathy...

I took your advice yesterday and gave up on the Liar's Key. I kept zoning out and had 0 interest in the characters or story. I kept wishing I could read something else. So I did :-) Feels much better to not be burdened with a book I wasn't enjoying.

message 77: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Feels great, doesn't it? :D
I even DNF books I was really excited to read at first just 'cause I wasn't in the mood. Sorry team :p

If I ever get a break between buddy reads I might go back and finish it, just cuz I HATE having unfinished books out there, but not likely for this month.

Sha | 1522 comments Late; but I'm actually liking midnight crossroad a lot more than the Sookie books- it's much better written.

Also, there's a TV series?

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Sha wrote: "Late; but I'm actually liking midnight crossroad a lot more than the Sookie books- it's much better written.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on that :-) Though I agree that neither series is Shakespeare.

message 81: by Sha (new)

Sha | 1522 comments I can see why people would like Sookie better- more things happen in it. Crossroad is really a slice of life thing so far and that's not to everyone's taste.

However, the characters have more facets and the writing is more fluid somehow? Also there is not much romance so far, which I really appreciate. And the worldbuilding is better, possibly because it's a normal world with added supernaturalism. Plus I really like the idea of weirdotown. All of this sort of weighs things towards this one for me.
I know it's all personal tastes.

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Sha wrote: "I can see why people would like Sookie better- more things happen in it. Crossroad is really a slice of life thing so far and that's not to everyone's taste.

I like the idea of a weird town. I just didn't think it was executed well. The characters where all 2 dimensional. Manfred just took all the weirdness like no big deal at the very first onset. (view spoiler) All of the actions and dialogue felt forced. I didn't connect with any of the characters and the plot was eh.

It is all personal tastes though. I actually like how Sookie's all about the romance, but I can see how the extreme cheesiness of it would turn people off.

message 83: by Sha (new)

Sha | 1522 comments I usually like romance. But I define "romance" as being more emotional than physical, which is why I tend to stick to historical romance over PNR and Contemporary- there's more of a chance in the latter two for sex to do all the romancing. Although of course there are exceptions.

Eric is literally the only character Sookie play off of, or has any chemistry with. There is an external story there- characters clashing, playing with each other. Everyone else is "oh hey this looks like a man I am attracted to"/"that girl is sooooo hot" and that is their whole emotional, non-hormonal existance. No conflict. No growth. Hell, barely any actual trust.

Although yeah, I agree that nobody in midnight is a complex and multi faceted character. :D Harris did a good job with Eric and Pam, drawing them out into intriguing characters with their own motivations. I haven't read much if Midnight, but all characters are actual characters so far, as opposed to prop for the Sookie drama of the week.

Again, personal tastes I agree. And I'm only about 20% through Midnight so there's a lot of chance for opinions to change.

PS: I'm not trying to put Sookie down, honest. I'm just trying to articulate what annoyed me about it. And I fully admit that a lot of it may be a buildup of unreasonable amounts of crankiness.

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments It's ok to put Sookie down. I think we all just read it for a light, mindless getaway. The series won't be winning any literary awards.

Sha | 1522 comments Is it weird that when two people attack Bobo & Manfred and then try to bluff-army their way out of it my reaction is "you are not a recognized state so you don't come under the Geneva Convention you little shits"

I mean sure, THAT's the relevant point here...

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Sha wrote: "Is it weird that when two people attack Bobo & Manfred and then try to bluff-army their way out of it my reaction is "you are not a recognized state so you don't come under the Geneva Convention yo..."

Lol. I also rolled my eyes at their attempt at legitimacy.

message 87: by Sha (new)

Sha | 1522 comments Aaaaand I'm done~

I did like this one much better than the Sookie books I read, and Mr. Snuggly is (OBVIOUSLY) my favourite character. I'll be a little generous and make it four stars- the lack of romance and every character being a character rather than a thinly developed shilling character helped.

message 88: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments I'll download the ebook of Succubus Blues and start tonight :)

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments I have it... I just need to finish Mad Ship first. This one looks fast though. Maybe I'll put Mad Ship on hold and read this one first.

There's no rush. It's quite fast though. I read 5 chapters this morning during my commute.

I'm going to start tomorrow. I'm driving from New Jersey to Chicago, so lots of listening time ahead of me...

Are you reading it Diana?

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Virginie wrote: "So, I finished Six of Crows last night, I can focus on this one now :)

It didn't look like you were reading it so I decided to finish Elantris first :-) I should finish Elantris tonight or tomorrow at the latest, and then I'll go back to this one.

message 94: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Ah! I thought you weren't reading it and decided to finish Six of Crows first... ;)

I've been snatching chapters here and there thought. I've scribbled some comments on a piece of paper *somewhere* intending to post those later.
Will do if I ever find that elusive paper again haha.

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Are you girls reading smth nice and cheesy? Because if yes I'd like to join. If you're still reading it that is and if you don't mind me barging in. :D I'm in a bad need of some cheesy stuff in between big BRs.

message 96: by Virginie (new)

We're reading Succubus Blues at the moment.

I'll check my online library and see if they have it. Give me a sec.

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Yay! The more the merrier! Starting tonight. Having a crazy busy day.

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5391 comments Anyone reading this? I started it and would like to hear others' thoughts.
