PNR Buddy Reads ♥

I'm still at 40%. gosh, I am liking the TV series more and more. Spoilers for those who have not finished the book entirely and does not mind having mild spoiler from the TV series(view spoiler) . Hopefully in the second half the book picks up the pace.

Maybe the TV series is a better adaptation because it combines stories from later books? there were much more going on in it including (view spoiler)
sorry about the pick, gals, seriously thought it would be better than the adaptation. I guess this one is a rare case.

That's an incredibly safe assumption lol. What are we tackling next? Sticking with PNR?

Oh! I really want to read the Succubus series. Succubus Blues

My April and May are ridiculously overbooked. Here's my tracker.
EDIT: failed to link the tracker the first time --"

She's scary-looking. Isn't she supposed to be super sexy? :o"
Lol, cover art fail. Let's do end of March. I'll make it work. I've been really not enjoying a lot of my buddy reads. I'm probably going to drop a bunch. Keep only the ones I REALLY want to do. This one has been on my tbr list for probably over 5 years. Let's say March 21st?

I'm dropping more books these days than I used to. I blame the BR bonus points. I'm just starting tons of BRs and end up DNFing a quarter of those.

Same. I still finish them, cuz I absolutely hate not finishing a book, no matter how bad, but if it wasn't for the buddy read points, I'd be reading a lot more stuff that I actually want to read.
Omg!! I'm not saying you'll love these, but they're among my personal favorites. I love them so hard. One of my book boyfriends (MINE!!!!).
lol it's not one of those I can recommend with confidence, you know? But it's still MINE! My precious (okay, I know I'm verging on creepy now. Self awareness is important). XD
For what it's worth, the full arc of the series (realized in book 6) is part of its high appeal with me.

I didn't like what happened in books 2-3 (view spoiler)
When I quit I read the blurbs for later books, I think, and saw something about (view spoiler)

I can't force myself to read something I don't like anymore. I just end up in a slump 'cause I'm dreading going back to the book.

I don't tend to read things I actively hate, but I have been continuing series I would otherwise let rot in my TBR out of disinterest/apathy...

I took your advice yesterday and gave up on the Liar's Key. I kept zoning out and had 0 interest in the characters or story. I kept wishing I could read something else. So I did :-) Feels much better to not be burdened with a book I wasn't enjoying.

I even DNF books I was really excited to read at first just 'cause I wasn't in the mood. Sorry team :p

If I ever get a break between buddy reads I might go back and finish it, just cuz I HATE having unfinished books out there, but not likely for this month.

Also, there's a TV series?

Also, there's a TV series?"
We're going to have to agree to disagree on that :-) Though I agree that neither series is Shakespeare.

However, the characters have more facets and the writing is more fluid somehow? Also there is not much romance so far, which I really appreciate. And the worldbuilding is better, possibly because it's a normal world with added supernaturalism. Plus I really like the idea of weirdotown. All of this sort of weighs things towards this one for me.
I know it's all personal tastes.

However, the characters have more face..."
I like the idea of a weird town. I just didn't think it was executed well. The characters where all 2 dimensional. Manfred just took all the weirdness like no big deal at the very first onset. (view spoiler) All of the actions and dialogue felt forced. I didn't connect with any of the characters and the plot was eh.
It is all personal tastes though. I actually like how Sookie's all about the romance, but I can see how the extreme cheesiness of it would turn people off.

Eric is literally the only character Sookie play off of, or has any chemistry with. There is an external story there- characters clashing, playing with each other. Everyone else is "oh hey this looks like a man I am attracted to"/"that girl is sooooo hot" and that is their whole emotional, non-hormonal existance. No conflict. No growth. Hell, barely any actual trust.
Although yeah, I agree that nobody in midnight is a complex and multi faceted character. :D Harris did a good job with Eric and Pam, drawing them out into intriguing characters with their own motivations. I haven't read much if Midnight, but all characters are actual characters so far, as opposed to prop for the Sookie drama of the week.
Again, personal tastes I agree. And I'm only about 20% through Midnight so there's a lot of chance for opinions to change.
PS: I'm not trying to put Sookie down, honest. I'm just trying to articulate what annoyed me about it. And I fully admit that a lot of it may be a buildup of unreasonable amounts of crankiness.

I mean sure, THAT's the relevant point here...

Lol. I also rolled my eyes at their attempt at legitimacy.

I did like this one much better than the Sookie books I read, and Mr. Snuggly is (OBVIOUSLY) my favourite character. I'll be a little generous and make it four stars- the lack of romance and every character being a character rather than a thinly developed shilling character helped.

There's no rush. It's quite fast though. I read 5 chapters this morning during my commute.

I'm going to start tomorrow. I'm driving from New Jersey to Chicago, so lots of listening time ahead of me...

Are you reading it Diana?"
It didn't look like you were reading it so I decided to finish Elantris first :-) I should finish Elantris tonight or tomorrow at the latest, and then I'll go back to this one.

I've been snatching chapters here and there thought. I've scribbled some comments on a piece of paper *somewhere* intending to post those later.
Will do if I ever find that elusive paper again haha.

I finished this today. (view spoiler)[I liked the twist at the end with Connor being a little sociopath, didn't see it coming!
I thought it was average overall, clearly written with a TV deal in mind. Might give the show a try. (hide spoiler)]
