Mattie | 15 comments Years ago I read this really good book that I am searching for as hard as I can on the Internet but have turned up empty. I read it around the time I was in elementary, so it had to have been published before 2010.

I don't remember the title or the author, just the basic plot and setting. It takes place in some fictional world where there are three "levels" and the world is shaped similar to a spinner (round at the bottom and flat at the top with each level being smaller and higher than the lower level). The bottom level was the biggest and was known to have unknown creatures that were dangerous, making this level supposed to be abandoned by human life. The middle level was full of people who had to work. The top level was full of people who didn't have to work, rich folk. No one could go to the next level because the height was too much.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

I do not remember much else other than the protagonist scaling the tall land and managing to make it to the top level, meeting another boy who he got to know? Either that or he ended up finding a house and stole papers? I wish I could recall more. In the end of the book (a reason I believe this book to be part of a series) is when the protag ends up at the very bottom level (maybe exiled there for having climbed to the top level), escapes death from the unknown creatures, and finds out that someone actually lives in the bottom level. It's possible that this person might be related to the protag in a way. I really wish I could remember. I apologize.

Anyways I would really appreciate some help! Thank you.

[[EDIT: Thanks to everyone who helped me! The book I was looking for is The House of Power by Patrick Carman. Thank you, Ayshe, for your assistance and Valerie for your suggestion!]]

Valerie (valeriekemp) | 274 comments Just a guess because I haven't read it yet, but maybe one of the Escape from Furnace books? The first is Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith. Sorry I can't link, I'm on the app.

Mattie | 15 comments Hey Valerie and darkenrhal! I just read the summary and reviews on the link and I don't think that's it. The protag and the people on the middle level, if I don't remember correctly, don't have education or go to school of any sort. I don't think they even had last names (it's sort of like a "The Maze Runner" deal). It's even likely that the person he meets at the top level teaches him to read and write in exchange for protag teaching him about the lower levels. Thanks for the suggestion and your help though!
