Nicole | 2 comments I have been searching for the name of this book for years and I can not figure it out! So here goes the plot:

There's a young girl growing up in England somewhere. She lives next door to a peculiar teenager who is never allowed out of his room because of his violent tendencies. SPOILER: At the end of the book it's revealed that he has killed his mother, a postal man who comes to leave a package and a little girl. The little girl who he kills has been missing for some time but since she comes from an unruly family whose dad is an alcoholic (I believe) and her sisters are juvenile delinquents it goes unnoticed for awhile.

The story is narrated by another little girl who attends the same school as the one who eventually goes missing. The author compares this little girl to Scout from "To Kill A Mockingbird" at some point in the book.

I know it's not a lot to go on but I do believe the book won a young adult award, it written by an British author, and has a red cover (at least the one I read did.)

Any help would be appreciated!

When did you read it, Nicole?

I read it back in 2009. I believe the title was an one word title. All of the people that the teenager killed were stuffed in his closet....morbid but the book was actually a bit light in the tone it was written.
