Michael W 4 Book Review
Maze Runner
By Michael Wyss

In summary, there is a big maze that people are trying to escape from. But there are monsters protecting the exits and the maze changes every night. The main characters are Mino, Tessa and Thomas. Can they escape the maze?

The setting in this book takes place in a city, called the Glade, that is surrounded by a maze. The people in the city don’t know how they got there, other than they woke up in a cage that was going up to the city. They have no idea where the Glade is in the world. In the city, everyone has their own jobs. Some of the kids are cooks, gardeners, medical people and some are runners. The runners enter the maze during the day and they are running as quickly as they can to find a exit. The maze has monsters, called Grievers, that come out at night. The maze has a big door that is opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. If a runner gets caught in the maze after the sun goes down and the doors close, the Grievers chase and try to kill the runner. Many runners don’t make it out of the maze alive. One other problem with the maze is that it moves each night. So what the runners discover during the day may change the next day because the maze changes.

The conflict in the book is a man to society conflict type. People inside the maze are trying to get out of the maze. The group that put them inside the maze, are called the “WICKED” group. The WICKED group is testing all of the people in the maze to see if they will work together, if they can survive from the Grievers, and if they can escape the maze. There are several other smaller conflicts in the book, but this is the one I would like to focus on.

In conclusion, I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a intense read. There are many parts where it is extreme and very scary. If the reader likes being on their toes all the time. You can’t relax when you are reading this book. It gives you a great mental picture of the Grievers, the Glade and the Maze. A great book.
