Art | 9 comments Hello, fledgling librarian here. I didn't find a policy in the librarian manual, and I have to imagine this has been discussed before, but my searching skills have failed me:

Common practice seems to be that, regardless of the work's original language, English is favored for the language of the series' name and description if an English version of the work exists. Is that correct?

What I've seen most often is "also known as" in the description for the series name in other languages.

However, I have come across some series names in the original (non-English) language, even when an English version exists. I'm guessing the original language is favored if an official English edition doesn't exist, and then if an English edition follows later someone needs to change the series name.

So I'm just trying to confirm I understand policy correctly before I start changing a few things.

Policy is to have the series name in the original language:

Goodreads policy is for the series page to have the name of the series in the original language, with series names in other languages listed in the description.

Series information in book titles should be according to the specific edition's language (though it will be visible only on shelves and the "all editions" page if it is different from the series name).
