I'm looking for a children's book (slightly YA) that I read in the 80s. Can't remember the cover, title, or author, but the main character is a girl maybe 10-13 years old. There's a subplot in the book about her accidentally getting into stamp collecting. This is the book that introduced me the word "philatelist." The only other thing I remember about the book is that at one point she wants to lie to her dad about not wanting to spend time with him. So, she rehearses some lines and one point they come out as "I'm sorry but I'm spending the weekend with my wend Fendy. If I said it that way I'd die." (should be my friend Wendy). So, I know her friend's name, but not her name. If anybody has any idea what this book is, I'd be very grateful.

Wow. Thank you. I can’t wait to get my hands on it, especially to see if the stamp collecting subplot is part. Sometimes I wonder if I got two different books mixed up. Thanks again.
Tab's suggestion of Things Won't Be the Same by Kathryn Ewing looks promising.
Book quotes using the snippet search on Google Books:
When Marcy opened the envelop, she could scarcely believe her eyes. She drew out a shiny black cardboard stamp album and a packet of... | "That's a stamp collector. I'm going to collect stamps, and someday I'm going into the business." | "I've decided to be a philatelist."

Yes, that is the book. I never realized there were two other books about Marcy. I got all three! Thanks everyone.
