The Time Quintet by Madeleine L'Engle--Starting February 9th with A Wind in the Door

A Wind in the Door is a fantastic adventure story involving Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and Calvin O'Keefe, the chief characters of A Wrinkle in Time. The seed from which the story grows is a rather ordinary situation of Charles Wallace's having difficulty in adapting to school. He is extremely bright, so much so that he gets punched around a lot for being "different". He is also strangely, seriously ill (mitochondritis - the destruction of farandolae, minute creatures of the mitochondria in the blood). Determined to help Charles Wallace in school, Meg pays a visit to his principal, Mr. Jenkins, a dry, cold man with whom Meg herself has had unfortunate run-ins. The interview with Mr. Jenkins goes badly and Meg worriedly returns home to find Charles Wallace waiting for her. "There are," he announces, "dragons in the twins' vegetable garden. Or there were. They've moved to the north pasture now."

Dragons? Not really, but an entity, a being stranger by far than dragons; and the encounter with this alien creature is only the first step that leads Meg, Calvin, and Mr. Jenkins out into galactic space, and then into the unimaginable small world of a mitochondrion. And, at last, safely, triumphantly, home.

Okay, so I read The Sword in the Stone recently, and I thought "fewmets" were droppings as in poop/stool/whatever you want to call it, not feathers.

...This whole scene with the three Mr. Jenkins is rather confusing and weird, but it reminds me a lot of Labyrinth - with the two... door knobs? Anyways, the main character had to work out which way was the correct way because one let to "certain doom". One of the door knobs could only tell lies, and one could only tell the truth but there was no certainty of which was which... this whole thing with the Mr. Jenkins reminds me of that a LOT :P (hide spoiler)]

Just started the third in the series - A Swiftly Tilting Planet. That took a long time to finally get to XD

Ch1 (view spoiler)[That is a big time jump from the last book! Sandy and Dennis are both at University, Meg an Calvin are married (Calvin’s an immunologist by the sounds of it) and Meg is pregnant... and little Charles Wallace is now 15.

Interested in seeing whether the ages of the no-longer-children will play a big part in this novel. (hide spoiler)]

Charles Wallace has gone not into space and to another like I first thought, but is instead in the same ‘where’ butt not the same ‘when’. He appears to be at home, but shortly after the fall of the dinosaurs (as the deaths of the dinosaurs were mentioned in the prelude to this scene).

And now apparently Charles Wallace needs to find a “Mighty-Have-Been” and may need to go “inside” someone (like what Meg and Co. did in the last book? Maybe?).

53% (view spoiler)[Okay, that was slightly less confusing than the last time Charles Wallace went “within” someone.

This time he went “within” Brandon, a young Pilgrim (?) boy who appears to have been a seer, and was present within Brandon during the birth of Brandon’s nephew and then the subsequent accusation (and verdict) of the nephew’s Native American mother being a witch - purely because she didn’t cry when giving birth.

Seems the use of the mantra from that first chapter (with Calvin’s mother) was able to save the day and prevent Zylle being burned as a witch - as it called down lightning which began burning the vhurch it was seen as God being angry with the situation and thus put the... well “fear of God” unto the angry mob.

77% (view spoiler)[We’re spending a LOT of time on Chuck and Beezie and their grandmother and mother... (with Charles Wallace “within” Chuck) and while it’s interesting reading about Calvin’s mother’s past (she’s Beezie) I’m still really not sure what purpose this gives the wider book ._.

I’m not really a fan of books that go in massive tangents with seemingly no relation to the wider story to be honest - and the way this book is going is reminding me a bit too much of The Sword in the Stone, which I read earlier in the year.

Honestly, for a book based on one of Charles Wallace’s adventures (and the first adventure that could potentially be said to be one he went on by himself) there is very little Charles Wallace present in the novel ._. (hide spoiler)]

I’m almost at the end, so I’m assuming he’s saved the day by now and it’s just the happy ending to go but honestly I am so confused with how everything went - even now that I’m almost at the end! D: (hide spoiler)]

YEP. It was immensely confusing - even now that I've finished reading it I still don't think I understand it XD;;
Felt that the conclusion happened really suddenly too, and wasn't really explained ._.

Will start the next book soon - I want to get my current BR book done first though (and it's only short so it shouldn't take too long ;D)
