Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Our lovely Mel Comley has sent me this link.

I've not yet read the whole thread as I've rushed to let you lot know but it looks pretty rotten.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Ouch, that's some nasty shit.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments He used to post in our group.

message 4: by Sadie (new)

Sadie Forsythe Horrible!!!

message 5: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I proofread for him for a short while - until he didn't like me not liking one of his books.

message 6: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I've read three of 'his' books!

message 7: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Yeuck. And if you read the Amazon page for his "murder in the first", you'll see that it is has three 1 star reviews (from people complaining about the plagiarism) and one five star review.

The single five star review is from someone who only ever seems to give five star reviews, but seems to be able to give several five star reviews in a single day.

I smell a rat. A very big rat.

message 8: by B J (new)

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments He appears to have published books at an extraordinary rate - and that's just under the Karl Jones name. I suspect that a lot of unpleasant things are going to emerge from under this particular stone.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Do be sure to take advantage of the look inside feature to check he's not stolen your's.

He's a member in a couple of groups but no longer in ours.

Think they should be warned?

One of them is a crime, thriller and mystery group. Seems to be his target books.

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I reckon they should be warned, yes.

message 11: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments A lot of books to check through. I can't believe Amazon don't have some kind of check in place

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll see about messaging the mod.

As long as my net allows...

message 13: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Who is he? Can someone post a link to his page etc? Cheers.

message 14: by Joo (last edited Jul 22, 2014 04:39AM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I've deleted all my reviews of his books and also deleted the few books I had of his (for free)

I've looked at the one or two books that were plagiarised and it's amazing that he hasn't changed the first bit of the look inside at least.

As for the other stuff beginning with a P, at least he admitted it even though he could hardly have done it any later.

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments David wrote: "Who is he? Can someone post a link to his page etc? Cheers."

His name is Karl Jones

message 16: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, I just PMd his name - I'm being polite!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I don't think sharing his profile page is inappropriate as it's publicly available.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I recognise his photo actually.

Anyone else looked at the picture of him in the swimming pool? I bet he even tells people that it's in his own back garden.

message 20: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments See, I made the mistake of spending years sitting in front of a keyboard typing away and wracking my brains for ideas. I never realised there was an easier way.

message 21: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments His answered question is interesting seeing that the one he reckons to be currently working on is one of the alleged nicked ones.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments He's currently reading Shaun's The Kult.

I better tell Shaun to be sure to read this thread.

message 23: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 145 comments I am seeing his name pop up all over the internet. I wonder if his ears are burning.

message 24: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Has anything like this happened before I wonder?

message 25: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't know but you wonder how he thought he could get away with it. He'll be sorry when his cows come home to roost!

message 26: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21810 comments Well I don't think he's nicked nothing of mine under his own name but then I cannot imagine it's worth your while doing that with fantasy :-(

Remind me to carry an umbrella when in your area!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Elaine wrote: "I am seeing his name pop up all over the internet. I wonder if his ears are burning."

I think this needs to be shared widely.

I just googled him and enough info popped up to tell me I dont want to read a book by him, even if it was all his own work

message 30: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Yes, some of it makes for grim reading.

message 31: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments David wrote: "Has anything like this happened before I wonder?"

I have a vague recollection of reading about something like that before. But it was a foreign person doing it.

message 32: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Ugh.

message 33: by Kath (last edited Jul 20, 2014 11:29AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Michael, I'm not happy with the bit you've edited into your post. This is an under 18s inclusive forum and I would have hoped that you or a mod would have removed it. It adds nothing to the discussion.

message 34: by Sam (last edited Jul 20, 2014 11:33AM) (new)

Sam Kates I guest-posted on this guy's blog a year or so ago. He was a regular then on one of the amazon.com forums I frequent and came across as a nice bloke. Really, he's a complete scumbag.

He was recently done for possessing images of child pornography. When he was sentenced, the court didn't know he was already under investigation in another part of the country for offences of sexual assault on a minor. He recently pleaded guilty to at least one of those charges. His victim was four at the time.

These allegations of plagiarism, serious though they are, seem like small potatoes in comparison.

message 35: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I've re-edited it, Kath.

message 36: by Kath (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments sorry im not able to monitor things as closely as id like cuz of the net here. trying my phone now.
lets be careful of posting serious allegations, please.
this thread is simply meant as a heads up for authors to check their work hasn't been plagiarised.

message 40: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Wise words, Patti - thank you.

I suspect this one could run and run. We ought not to muddy the waters by saying anything which could affect any possible criminal actions.

Not surprising that the site has crashed. I suspect that the internet wires are hot around the world on this one.

Ditto - has someone taken him down?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not working for me either...

message 43: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It appears kboards has been overwhelmed by people checking up.

message 44: by A.L. (last edited Jul 20, 2014 02:16PM) (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments This has been reported on facebook as well. Everyone there is also livid. Rightly so. I'd guess Amazon won't always do anything until someone reports it. Like the actual owners of the books.

No. It is still there but as you copy the link down through 'replies' it gets chopped about. Use the link at the top of the thread.

I would suggest we proceed with caution as the original link doesn't really substantiate the claims but it was followed by third party rage. I for one would like to see some of the original books to judge for myself before getting in to a froth.

message 46: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Thanks Simon. It was the first link I followed, but it is working now. :)

message 47: by B J (new)

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments Simon, if you use the 'Look Inside' function on Geraldine Evans' Dead Before Morning and Karl Jones' Murder In The First you'll find a remarkable similarity.

Pete Carter (petecarter) | 522 comments This bloke seems to manage to write, edit and publish a book roughly every four days. It takes me a month just to edit!

message 50: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Pete - and his five star reviewer manages to read and review up to three books in a single day.

That's quite a production line!
