Holly (hollyiri) | 12 comments I read this book in 1996/1997, it was part of our 7th grade reading. It's fiction and about a world that floods for 50 years or so at a time. All the houses are several stories tall due to the flooding. There was a young boy that lived with his family on the upper story of their house, since it was flooding while he was young. They got around by boats. The boy went diving into the lower story of the house to gather some items. He had a girl as a friend and I remember an old man. That is all I remember.

Holly (hollyiri) | 12 comments I think the cover was a greenish/blue and it's not All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury.

Rainbowheart | 28704 comments Did you read it in the USA? Or a different country?

Was it a classroom text, like it was handed out and read and discussed as a group? Seems like something that should be well known if that's the case.

Holly (hollyiri) | 12 comments It was read in the US and it was read and discussed as a class. I don't think it was a regular classroom text though.

Rainbowheart | 28704 comments Thanks for the info. Was it set on a future Earth, like in a world where the flooding was due to climate change? Or was it some alternate universe?

message 13: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollyiri) | 12 comments I honestly don't remember.

Nathan (thewesterly) | 2 comments I'm looking for the same book, I think; in my memory the book is science-fiction, set on an alien world, and the city was originally built by the indigenous aliens. I seem to remember the main character finding a flute?

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments If you think there's a good chance that this is your book, you can put this request in the "Possibly Solved" folder, by clicking the 'edit' link next to the subject line / title.

If this turns out to be the book you're looking for, come back and tell us that we were successful in our guesses. We keep the old requests (please don't delete it), so new people who're using a search function can easily find the same book, based on your keywords/description. We move these finished requests to one of the "Solved" folders, the same way as above. (In addition, I like to edit my requests to show the title and author at the top of the original post, so it shows up in google results easily).

If it turns out that this wasn't your book, or you want more suggestions - you can put this query back into the "Unsolved" folder at any time, and bump it (although we ask you to not bump it more than once a month) to put it back to the head of the queue, so it doesn't get buried in the older requests.
