It is kind of amazing how you can now that characters will be dead at the end of a book but you still worry about them and want them to be safe. I adore this book.
I’m absorbed by the truth and grit of the characters. Mel, it’s as if I’ve forgotten they are going to die. It’s suspenseful- what’s coming? I haven’t researched the girls or the real events but I will!
I’m not finding the subject matter difficult, rather educational. The culture, people and events are fascinating. It blows my mind it’s based on a true story!
Hey guys, I finished tonight and I am still in awe of this novel. I posted a review without any spoilers, but I know I would want to read it after I finished the book. I can get another's idea stuck in my head that may deter my authentic thoughts.
I will chime in on the discussions, I just couldn't stop once I started!
I find the writing enjoyable to read even though the events are sometimes difficult. I know many people are put off by the diary form but I personally like it. it shows Maria Theresa growing up, her coming of age if you will.
It took me a little to get invested in this book, but now I am all in. I really enjoy having all four sisters tell the story out of their perspectives, it gives the story a nice dimension. Fortunately, while the subject matter is grave, I don’t think that it’s being told in a graphic way and therefore I don’t find it emotionally too difficult to listen to it.
