I remember someone saying this was a tough read with regards to the subject matter. How do you find it?

It is kind of amazing how you can now that characters will be dead at the end of a book but you still worry about them and want them to be safe. I adore this book.

Keriann (kad123) I know what you mean Mel, I am hooked on this book, it’s so sad at points.

Stacey (modica03) | 82 comments I’m absorbed by the truth and grit of the characters. Mel, it’s as if I’ve forgotten they are going to die. It’s suspenseful- what’s coming? I haven’t researched the girls or the real events but I will!

Stacey (modica03) | 82 comments I’m not finding the subject matter difficult, rather educational. The culture, people and events are fascinating. It blows my mind it’s based on a true story!

Stacey (modica03) | 82 comments Hey guys,
I finished tonight and I am still in awe of this novel. I posted a review without any spoilers, but I know I would want to read it after I finished the book. I can get another's idea stuck in my head that may deter my authentic thoughts.

I will chime in on the discussions, I just couldn't stop once I started!

Candace | 53 comments I find the writing enjoyable to read even though the events are sometimes difficult. I know many people are put off by the diary form but I personally like it. it shows Maria Theresa growing up, her coming of age if you will.

Kathrin It took me a little to get invested in this book, but now I am all in. I really enjoy having all four sisters tell the story out of their perspectives, it gives the story a nice dimension. Fortunately, while the subject matter is grave, I don’t think that it’s being told in a graphic way and therefore I don’t find it emotionally too difficult to listen to it.
