theDuke | 6501 comments That's the two best bond actors gone.....i never liked the newer ones portrayal of the infamous spy, not that Sean would've cared..he hated playing Bond!

My all time favourite movies of his: A Bridge Too Far, The Name Of The Rose & The Untouchables.

I read that he once turned down the role of Gandalf, on the basis that he didn't understand the script (who does?!), but had he accepted, he would've earned a cool £30 mill plus 15% of the box office sales......which would've netted him a stonking £450 million in the bank! But hey...what would've the retired actor done with all that money eh? He already had his nice home in the Bahamas! :)

RIP Big Tam.

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Good job Mrs Tech was nowhere near me during Whose Line is it Anyway?'s heyday. I adored it, and Mr Sessions. WLIIA? and A Bit of Fry & Laurie were staples of the VHS tapes my mum used to send me while I was in Germany through most of the nineties.

The former Mrs D used to live in Largs. In fact, one of her novels is set in a town based on Largs. I thought it sounded quite nice. Never been there myself, though.

Tim Franklin | 10976 comments One that slipped through the net is the death from cancer of Gordon Haskell, aged 75 on October 15th, who had a long and storied career dating back to the mid-60s when he was in the psychedelic band The Fleurs De Lys. In 2001 Gordon had a surprise Christmas hit with his song 'How Wonderful You Are', which has since become the most requested record on Radio 2, apparently. The record reached no. 2 in the chart; denied a TOTP performance due to behind the scenes pressure from Robbie Williams management (Williams being at no. 1), EMI records and City of London Bank, who were arranging a £42 million deal with the Blobster, it's suggested he would have knocked Williams from the top slot if he'd got the TV appearance. 14 months later, the clip was finally aired. No apology was ever received from the BBC for this disgraceful episode.

Previous to that, Gordon's perhaps most notable period was when he was briefly a member of King Crimson, singing 'Cadence And Cascade' on the band's album 'In The Wake Of Poseidon' and throughout the follow-up album 'Lizard' (both 1970). Musical differences with Fripp led to Gordon abruptly departing when the band was due to begin rehearsals for a planned tour. Being more a lover of Nat King Cole and Ray Charles meant Gordon was never fully comfortable with Crimson's music. He and Fripp had been old school mates, which was brought them together.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainm...

Other than Adrian Belew and current singer Jakko Jakszyk, all of the previous Crimson singers have now passed (Greg Lake, Gordon Haskell, Boz Burrell and John Wetton). Watch out, guys!

The ripper murders were a seriously scary time for us so we're particularly glad to see the end of him.

We were in the process of moving from Chapel Allerton in Leeds down to Bath when all this was going on, and most of the murders were committed quite close to us, the nearest about half a mile away.

I'd already started work down in Bath, so Su was alone in Leeds during the week and it was a seriously worrying time for both of us. Su never went out without one or both of the dogs we had at the time, never very far from home and never anywhere out in the open and well lit.

The Alsatian/Labrador cross (Dill) we had at the time was a good guard, the Doberman (Parsley, our first) wasn't but served to distract attention while Dill got stuck in if necessary.

It was a heck of a relief when Sutcliffe was finally caught.
