In the book The Surrender Tree, a woman many thought to be a witch was being chased to be captured even though she was the largest help to people. The story was very interesting but at some points confusing. It was placed in the 1800s and was out of multiple people's point of views. The main character was a young girl who looked up to the witch, Rosa, and who lost her family due to a sickness. She herself wanted to become like Rosa to fix people, to learn what she could have done to save her family. Rosa owned a cave placed hospital where she fixed many with positions and healents found from the area. The young girl searched for her for long and finally came across where she has been in hiding, she was able to learn from the witch. There was a slave hunter of the name Lieutenant Death, who searched for Rosa. He hid in trees, lurked in bushes, and guarded the outside of her cave. Later in the story a war developed, but it was know as a short war. Rosa looked at the war like it was just another way for slavery to develop all over again. Many slaves were released during the rebellion against spain. Moat of Cuba was free. Over this period of time Rosa became very busy taking care of many hurt ones, her partner Jose was a large help to her and her healing process. The Surrender Tree is a historical fiction book that is not apart of any series. It was a good book that was hard to put down, you are constantly wondering what happens next, the read was easy to understand a made sense as the progressed. The author puts much detail into what she is writing depending on the moment in the book. Personally I enjoyed the book and would read it again. I recommend for readers who want to read a book in one to two sittings. Also to people who enjoy mystery, the books has random mysterious spots that come and go quickly. I would rate this book a 4, it could have been better but it was definitely good. Would for sure read again!
