I have a budget - $5 a month. It used to be 1 new book at the store (when fresh paperbacks were 4.95 + tax in the bookstore back in the day.) these days it's books from the dollar bin at my local dollar store. they have to add up to close to $5, so I might get 2 books that month (one $2 other $3) or maybe more than that, depending on pricing and how many good books I can find.
I grew up poor so scraping together 5 dollars to spend on books for that month was a huge thing for me and it still affects my purchasing style. Once a year (birthday!) I go for broke and spend like $100 on books and buy titles I need to add to my collection. I'm stil searching for certain books. Does it translate to them getting read? Well, when the heater goes out again and I'm snowed in, wrapped up like a mummy, I have nothing but time to read. ^_^

Currently, 101 hardcover and paperback books (32 non-fiction & 69 novels) and 9 audio books (1 non-fiction & 8 novels) reside on the shelves in my den.

Now I have my Kindle I also buy ebooks and if it is expensive I might use my Prime borrow. As I am in the UK, we don't have Kindle Unlimited or I would use that on the basis that if I wanted to keep the book forever I could then buy a paperback copy.
I have good months and bad months...

Ha that's the highest budget we have so far here :)
