K.P. Merriweather (kp_merriweather) | 276 comments I only buy books I want to read again after going to the library or if the library doesn't carry it.

I have a budget - $5 a month. It used to be 1 new book at the store (when fresh paperbacks were 4.95 + tax in the bookstore back in the day.) these days it's books from the dollar bin at my local dollar store. they have to add up to close to $5, so I might get 2 books that month (one $2 other $3) or maybe more than that, depending on pricing and how many good books I can find.

I grew up poor so scraping together 5 dollars to spend on books for that month was a huge thing for me and it still affects my purchasing style. Once a year (birthday!) I go for broke and spend like $100 on books and buy titles I need to add to my collection. I'm stil searching for certain books. Does it translate to them getting read? Well, when the heater goes out again and I'm snowed in, wrapped up like a mummy, I have nothing but time to read. ^_^

Mary Bey | 23 comments Probably not much. I read books very quickly, so if I bought every one I like,it would be like flushing money down the toilet. I usually try to find them at the library and if I can`t and I really want it, then I buy it.

Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments The vast majority of my reading material is borrowed from the local library; so the amount of money spent on books is negligible, However, I do buy a book if I am certain to want to read it more than once or if it is one of a series.

Currently, 101 hardcover and paperback books (32 non-fiction & 69 novels) and 9 audio books (1 non-fiction & 8 novels) reside on the shelves in my den.

Lori Clark (clarklori) | 11 comments Every year when I get my Christmas bonus, I buy myself a very nice present... a $200 gift card from Amazon. It's gone already. :( And I have more books on my Kindle than I could ever possibly read.

S. Aksah | 387 comments Ow! Well I used to work at a company that gave me an allowance of about 70 dollar a month to buy books. Those were the days! Now my budget is not more than 10!

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 207 comments People used to buy me books at Christmas until a couple of years ago and I had some nice surprises in my Christmas stocking. These days I am very much an impulse buyer so I tend to buy books in airports and places where I have time on my hands. Second hand bookshops can be a treasure trove and if I desperately need a book I might buy from Amazon UK. I don't really have a set budget.

Now I have my Kindle I also buy ebooks and if it is expensive I might use my Prime borrow. As I am in the UK, we don't have Kindle Unlimited or I would use that on the basis that if I wanted to keep the book forever I could then buy a paperback copy.

I have good months and bad months...

Melissa Veracruz (melissaveracruz) | 96 comments I don't usually have a book budget. I run to giveaways with Amazon gift cards and hope for Google Play cards in my stocking. Books are so dang expensive, especially the greats. My husband nearly had a conniption fit when he saw the phone bill a few months back. He didn't realize it was books I downloaded at first... I was like... Oopsie. I thought I had more on the Play card. All good. All good. And when we're at the bookstore, used or new, we're usually in the kids' section picking out Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Percy Jackson books for my son. :( MomLife

S. Aksah | 387 comments Its a local media company. They can get a tax break for that amount. But I dont work there anymore.

L.F. Falconer | 92 comments I buy sporadically, and generally three or four books at a time, so it's hard to put a monthly cost upon it, but I'd estimate I spend around $300 a year. That includes e-books, paperbacks, and hard cover. Occasionally I'll take advantage of a free e-book, but try support the author with a purchase most of the time. And if I really, really like an e-book, I'll also buy a paper copy if it's available.

Ha that's the highest budget we have so far here :)

Janet Hecht (janet_hecht) | 2 comments I probably spend close to $300 a year also. Some are resources for my business, those are the real expensive ones.

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) I'd spend hundreds a year, I don't tot it up. It's my major expense, I know that, after the rent I guess. Or can be, before the rent. Certainly I've spent thousands a year when I have to.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments I never spend that much on books because I don't really buy many. Every now and then I will spend between .99 and 2.99 and that would be 2-3 at best so I would say between $3-5 bucks. I know I sounds so cheap but again I usually buy ebooks here online and I don't really spend a lot for books. I'm like that with a lot of things not just books.

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 509 comments I buy my books from flea markets where they are like .50 cents a piece and I go to the clearance rack at half price books where they are a dollar a piece. I usually spend 10 a month on books.
