Stefanie | 58 comments A young girl (14 or 15 at most) is playing in a field with her younger sister. The field has unexploded land mines in it (the girls do know about the land mines, they know to only play on the path). The older sister steps of the path and steps on a land mine which blew up. She ended losing 1 leg, I think only the mid thigh down. She was taken to the hospital in the back off an old truck and fixed up. When she has healed enough she gets a prosthetic leg. The new legs hurts to walk on and she has to use a cane to assist a lot. She gets to go home and live with her family. The story is set somewhere of the Middle East in a poor area. I don’t think the family has a lot of money - she walks to most places and only few people have vehicles. The truck belonged to a man from their village. Publication date would be no later than 2008.

Stefanie, I added some plot details to the topic header, so your book might be recognized from the header alone. Many members only read the headers.

Feel free to update it clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, there's a "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

- Is this fiction or non-fiction?

Stefanie | 58 comments It is a fictional novel. I read it in high school so I am assuming that it is classed as Young Fiction.

Aroosha (arooshaaf) | 14 comments Maybe The Other Side of the Sky: A Memoir ?
It is non-fiction but the story sounds very similar.
