Alicia | 167 comments I hope you all are enjoying the book so far! How are you feeling after the first five chapters? Do you have any familiarity with the Greek gods before reading this?

I am of Greek descent and so took special interest in our grade school mythology units. But so much time has passed since my schoolgirl days that I really have forgotten most of it, so I really appreciated the teen-cliffnotes version towards the beginning of the book where Percy recites how the Gods descended from the Titans. It's coming back to me...

SarahKat | 6282 comments We are almost done with chapter 5. My son and I are listening to it on audio book in the car. I will say as far as a 5-year-old's attention span, this book is awesome. It has kept him interested the whole time so far, which is awesome because even I zone out when listening to audio books from time to time.

I also like it. I don't have much to say at this point except it is obviously meant for a younger audience, but I can appreciate it just the same. I do like that it dives into the action by chapter 4, and it has you "guessing" (if you know absolutely nothing about this book) from the beginning. There's not a lot of exposition, which is nice, and necessary for a young-young adult book.

I used to LOVE Greek mythology. When I first got the internet at my house (I was about 14), I spent a great deal of time learning all the different gods, muses, heroes, etc. In senior year, we spent a month or so on Greek mythology as well. I remember quite a bit of it, maybe not every single story, but at least the players and who they are for the most part.

I think it's like going to see an animated movie with your kids...the story is simple and engaging, but the humor is directed at the moms and dads along for the ride. I find myself chuckling and smiling while reading this book.

Maggie | 130 comments I'm probably not going to do the group read since I read this several years ago and I have a lot of other books I plan to read this month. I hope those of you who haven't read it yet enjoy it. It was fun!

I can't wait until my kids will actually sit and listen to a chapter book (or learn to read well enough to read a chapter book). I think they would enjoy the Percy Jackson series.

Judith | 18 comments I am really enjoying this book! It's imaginative and has some good messages about concepts such as loyalty and friendship. I can't recall the details about the gods so also appreciated the info about them in the book. I did read Fifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis last year and just loved it. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it, it also focuses on the gods but in a very unique way.

I look forward to the next 5 chapters!

Athina (booknotes_athina) | 21 comments I am from Greece, so I know the Greek mythology well. I finished the first 5 chapters last night and i really enjoyed them. I can't wait to read more

Ashley (ashleym99) | 1441 comments I just decided that I will try reading this book and had no idea what to expect. So far I am enjoying it. I like how you know that something is going on but are not sure what and then it starts coming together.

Captain Nemo (The Demigod Slytherin Who Drives A Jeep) | 4 comments I love this book. I’m planning on reading it to my seven year old brother, I think he’ll enjoy it.

Heather Dufield | 94 comments I wasn't sure at first if I was going to join this read, but I'm glad that I did. It's pretty fast paced I'm already on chapter 15 and I just started reading a couple of days ago.

Cassie | 370 comments Disclaimer: I am listening to the audio version of this book as I have been spending more time than usual in the car and needed something new.

That being said, the narrator is not my favorite. It’s taken a little bit to get over that and into the story itself more.

The timing is perfect as we have been teaching Ancient Greece in my World History class. I have to keep reminding myself this is a young adult book and to not judge some of the dialogue too harshly. It’s not typically the type of book I would read, but it’s growing on me...

I agree about the narrator! It is really hard to get over that. Especially because right before we started this, we had just finished Harry Potter, narrated by Jim Dale.
