I am of Greek descent and so took special interest in our grade school mythology units. But so much time has passed since my schoolgirl days that I really have forgotten most of it, so I really appreciated the teen-cliffnotes version towards the beginning of the book where Percy recites how the Gods descended from the Titans. It's coming back to me...

I also like it. I don't have much to say at this point except it is obviously meant for a younger audience, but I can appreciate it just the same. I do like that it dives into the action by chapter 4, and it has you "guessing" (if you know absolutely nothing about this book) from the beginning. There's not a lot of exposition, which is nice, and necessary for a young-young adult book.
I used to LOVE Greek mythology. When I first got the internet at my house (I was about 14), I spent a great deal of time learning all the different gods, muses, heroes, etc. In senior year, we spent a month or so on Greek mythology as well. I remember quite a bit of it, maybe not every single story, but at least the players and who they are for the most part.

I think it's like going to see an animated movie with your kids...the story is simple and engaging, but the humor is directed at the moms and dads along for the ride. I find myself chuckling and smiling while reading this book.

I can't wait until my kids will actually sit and listen to a chapter book (or learn to read well enough to read a chapter book). I think they would enjoy the Percy Jackson series.

I look forward to the next 5 chapters!

That being said, the narrator is not my favorite. It’s taken a little bit to get over that and into the story itself more.
The timing is perfect as we have been teaching Ancient Greece in my World History class. I have to keep reminding myself this is a young adult book and to not judge some of the dialogue too harshly. It’s not typically the type of book I would read, but it’s growing on me...

I agree about the narrator! It is really hard to get over that. Especially because right before we started this, we had just finished Harry Potter, narrated by Jim Dale.
