Maybe one of the Endless Quest books by Rose Estes?
Hmm...VERY likely. I'm looking through them now to see if I can find one that matches up. On a side note, I was not aware of this series but I would LOVE to get ahold of every one of them! So even if it turns out not to be in this series thank you very much for the hookup!
This series is still a possibility but I'm not finding one that specifically states it has a female protagonist or a cover that jogs my memory. So maybe, maybe not. The search continues.
There were the heartquest books that featured a female protagonist with romance elements too, that you could try.
Nothing in the Heartquest series looks like the one but once again,they do look interesting I'll be adding practically that whole series to my to-read list. Thanks.
The only other thing I remember is the avatar character riding horseback with a male warrior who I think was also Elvin but I can't be sure. I know that probably doesn't help much as that could happen in any fantasy book. lol If anyone knows where I could find lists of other choose your own adventure type series though, that might be helpful. I tried searching the listopia section but I wasn't coming up with much. However, I know there is more out there than just the actual Choose Your Own Adventure series and the two TSR series that have been mentioned here.

Try the Dragontales series. Half of them had female protagonists and plotlines geared to girls. I don't remember your specific book, but it seems to fit in with what I remember of these books.Here's a one of the few that have cover pictures here.
OMG THANK YOU! It absolutely was in that series. Its been so long I totally screwed a lot of the details but this is the one: Sword Daughter's Quest The heroine may not be Elvin but I remember the male protagonist being an Elfin ranger named Gavin. Solved!
