I read this book in 2009-2010, when I was in Middle School at Rodgers Middle school in Florida. I remember one of the character's ( a male) name was Brian and he either had eyes like a lion or he had golden/amber eyes. The protagonist was a good person but Brian was kind of bad. I remember there was another character who was nicknamed Spider? and he had a sister. The protagonist and Spider's sister found Spider in a house full of hippies doing drugs. Spider did LSD or Ecstasy and he was taken to the hospital. I believe Brian gave him the drugs and he was arrested for it. I remember reading the protagonist monologue, and that Brian was very charming and was able to get away with anything.

That was then, this is now by S.E. Hinton? It was fiction though. The little kid that took LSD was named M&M and one of the main characters was Bryon.
Steph's suggestion of That Was Then, This Is Now matches your description except for the names (which, in general, are tricky to remember).
Quotes from book - Mark was small and compact, with strange golden eyes and hair to match and a grin like a friendly lion. Here was much stronger than he looked - he could tie me in arm wrestling. He was my best friend and we were like brothers. | "You can get away with anything," I said, because that phrase came through my head whenever I thought about Mark. "Yeah, I can." He was quiet.
Some Goodreads reviewers say, "Don't worry, I don't drink it,I just sell it [drugs in the box]." | "One relationship Bryon has is a very serious one with a hippie friend's older sister. When their hippie friend disappears...they finally find him, he is in a house full of hippies and taking a very dangerous drug... He is rushed to the hospital..."
