Letters
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T, and W

Categories

1. Author

The author's name must begin with the chosen letter. The author's first, middle, or last name may be used. If the author has more than one name beginning with the chosen letter, it will be worth more points (1 point for each name beginning with the letter).

Author names MUST be the names found on the book. It doesn't matter if someone's middle name is the same letter, if they don't use it professionally.

2. Cover

Find an item on a cover that begins with the chosen letter. Only one item may be used, even if there is more than one that would work. If the item is something that is called with two or more words beginning with the chosen letter you would earn extra points.

3. Main Female Character

The heroine of the story. The name found on the back cover (synopsis). If the story happens to be about two or more women, and they get equal time in the story, then any of the names would work - but only one character's name.

If more than one of the her names (first, middle, and/or last) begin with the chosen letter, it will be worth more points (1 point for each name beginning with the letter).

4. Main Male Character

The hero of the story. The name found on the back cover (synopsis). If the story happens to be about two or more men, and they get equal time in the story, then any of the names would work - but only one character's name.

If more than one of his names (first, middle, and/or last) begin with the chosen letter, it will be worth more points (1 point for each name beginning with the letter).

5. Title

As shown in the example above, the title category must have a word beginning with the chosen letter ANYWHERE in the title. The words "A", "AN", "AND", or "THE" do NOT count towards points.

If more than one of the words begin with the chosen letter, it will be worth more points (1 point for each word beginning with the letter).

Book Requirements:

❀Must be 150+ pages.
❀May be read in any format (print, ebook, audio, etc.).
❀All genres are allowed.
❀You may reread a book for the challenge, it's not preferred but it is allowed. The book must be read in it's entirety, not just skimmed. You may not however reread a book that you used already for this challenge.
❀All books used for the challenge MUST be started AFTER the category is called. If you realize a book you've already started before the category would be a perfect fit for the challenge, you may restart it and then it will count - but only if you restart it.

Candle in the Darkness by Lynn Austin

Read: July 22-26

Rating: 4 stars

Review: A Candle in the Darkness by Lynn Austin is about a young lady Caroline living in a Southern State (Virginia) that becomes a Union Sympathizer and conspirator during the Civil War. The history woven into the novel was fabulous. It was a thought provoking novel.

Harvest of Rubies (Harvest of Rubies, #1) by Tessa Afshar

Read: August 4-6

Rating: 4 stars

Review: This BC novel had me drawn in with the first page. And then there was a bit of a lull and I nearly stopped reading. I'm so glad I didn't. The pace and action picked up considerably. Overall, this was a beautiful novel about a young Jewish woman living in a Persian dominated world and her journey to peace with the Lord. Highly recommended. I look forward to the continuing story in Harvest of Gold.

Book: Borders of the Heart
Author(f): Chris Fabry
Rating: 4 stars

Review: This book was amazing! The beginning was a little slow because you didn't know their back story's yet but it was amazing. I have read one other book by Chris Fabry and it was Not In the Heart, but I think Borders of the Heart was better.

Staci | 1071 comments Author (F): Frannie Flagg

A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg

Read: August 11-12

Rating: 4 stars

Review: Frannie Flagg is the author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. This was my first book by Frannie Flagg.

While I picked up this book for double points at the library rather than genuine interest (I didn't even read the summary and just grabbed it off the shelf), I ended up enjoying this book. The novel is about a 50 year old man who is in poor health and has only lived in Chicago. His doctor tells him to move away from the city. The man moves to small town Alabama. There is a sweet story told about his journey from solitary existence in Chicago to becoming part of a community is Lost River, Alabama. Very enjoyable read.

Firewall (FBI Houston, #1) by DiAnn Mills

Read: August 31 - September 1

Rating: 4 stars

Review: Firewall was a suspense novel. The entire novel covered five days and it was definitely fast-paced and had me turning pages to see what would happen next. The main character was a self-professed techy nerd that was at the airport departing for her honeymoon when the mayhem unfolded. Highly recommended for lovers of suspense novels.

Title(w): With Every Breath With Every Breath by Elizabeth Camden
Read: September 2-3
Review: I am having a hard time reviewing this book.. I cannot find the words to express just how much I loved it. The characters are amazing. The writing is wonderful. The story line keeps you guessing until the very end. The subject matter is hard to think about but so educational. I never knew so much about Tuberculosis. This book grabs your heart and your mind. Its between taking a chance on love or are you taking a chance on feeling pain that you could avoid? I cannot say much more or I will give the plot away. But trust me when I say I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. I am looking forward to reading more of her stories. I highly recommend this book to all ages and backgrounds. You get a good idea of how medical things were handled at this time period and how far we have come today. I HONESTLY think its one of the best I have read in a long time. I encourage you to read it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!

Staci | 1071 comments Title (W): Wildflowers from Winter

Wildflowers from Winter by Katie Ganshert

Read: September 8-10

Rating: 4 stars

Review:
This debut novel by Katie Gashert was actually my second by her. I read A Broken Kind of Beautiful earlier this year. There were definitely similarities between the two stories. Both had a heroine wrapped up in her career and living in a large city. Both had difficult childhoods. Despite these similarities, the novels did tell two different stories. I found that I enjoyed Wildflowers from Winter more than A Broken Kind of Beautiful. Perhaps because I could more easily relate to Bethany, the heroine in Wildflowers from Winter. It was difficult to relate to a fashion model (um no, not even a smidgen).

It was rewarding to watch God's hand at work in Bethany's life even though she would have denied it most of the novel. There was growth in her character as the pages turned. Evan and Robin were strong secondary characters. I definitely enjoyed this novel and would recommend to those that enjoy contemporary romance. I look forward to reading the second book in this series, Wishing on Willows.

Thanks to Dawn for the recommendation!

Author (G): Cathy Gohlke

Saving Amelie by Cathy Gohlke

Read: September 12-15

Rating: 4 stars

Review:This was my first Cathy Gohlke novel. From reviewing what she writes, it's clear she writes about a variety of historical time periods. In Saving Amelie she had done a great deal of research regarding eugenics, Hitler, Bonhauffer and other facets of WWII.

Saving Amelia is about a four year old deaf girl that is deemed not good enough by SS standards and the quest to save her. Along the journey, we get to know the town of Oberammergau and their Passion Play. It's a well told story and I highly recommend it for those who enjoy WWII Fiction.

I look forward to reading other novels by Cathy Gohlke.

Fire by Night (Refiner's Fire, #2) by Lynn Austin

Read: September 23-27

4.5 stars! This novel was very good!

I came into it with low expectations as the first book in the series, Candle in the Darkness, was simply ok. Fire by Night, however, was very good. The novel is about two very different women and their experiences during the Civil War. I have not read many books with two female heroines. Lynn Austin blended their stories beautifully.

I read the final page with a sigh of satisfaction.

I recommend this novel for those who enjoyed My Name is Mary Sutter and/or the Heroines Behind the Lines series by Jocelyn Green.
