Rick Olivares | 1 comments What I can remember from the plot was it was set around the time of the fall of the Roman Empire. This left the West open to invasion. There's a small company I know led by an Abbott (the only one I can remember) as they journey into the unknown. If anyone knows the title and the author I'd be obliged. I'd love to find it. This was something I read as youngster.

Are they heading in any particular direction? Are they starting out from Rome? Are they by any chance looking for Prester John?

Could this be a sci fi dystopian that draws a parallel to the fall of the Roman Empire -- such as A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.?

One Amazon reviewer says, "Civilization has begun to rebuild itself from the dark period [nuclear holocaust] when Brother Francis made his journey to New Rome... the long and arduous journey east on foot to deliver the "blessed blueprint" for the Church's canonization of Leibowitz."
